Create an automated terminal command? Newish to Linux and slowly learning lol. I recently got a podcast downloader working through rss with castget, works great. The command to get new eps that haven’t been downloaded is castget -c. Is there a way to automate this, so the command runs say every day at a set time?

That washer/dryer combo could be used by cops to identify a property.
Cops can creep on Airbnb Good Monday morning! Today's big story is an investigation from Joseph about cops and an AI tool that takes data from sites like Airbnb and Zillow and identifies specific properties. The internet is full of photos of the interiors of people's homes, from real estate and rental listings to short-term stays, and that data is in the hands of law enforcement. And in other news, a very interesting interview with the whistleblower subject of Sorkin's new movie, some big legislative impact, and what caught my eye over the weekend around the web. Let's get into it. A screenshot from a Raven promotional video on LinkedIn.AI Company Lets Cops Pinpoint Specific Houses Based on a Single Interior Photo An AI company now lets cops take a photo and nearly instantly figure out what specific home it was taken in, using only clues in the photo itself, and is clearly pulling data from sites like Zillow and Airbnb.  The tool, called Raven, shows the increasing power of AI capabilities available to local law enforcement agencies. 404 Media previously reported that both the Los Angeles Police Department and Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) have bought access to Raven, which was previously called GeoSpy. Now, Raven, made by a company called Graylark Technologies, has added features that let cops analyze the interior of homes. In a post on LinkedIn earlier this month, Graylark CEO Daniel Heinen wrote the company was introducing “the ability to geolocate interior images across millions of short-term rental units worldwide.” An accompanying demo video shows someone taking a photo from X of a washer/dryer unit inside a building. They upload it to Raven, select “Find Property: Interior and exterior property geolocation,” and then choose a region to search. After a couple of seconds, the map interface zooms in on an area in Charlotte, North Carolina. On the right hand side, the screen displays a list of results. The top one reads, “Renovated! Walk Uptown/located in 2 Hot Spots!” That result directly quotes the language on a specific Airbnb listing in Charlotte, and the photos in the Airbnb listing show the same property. Read the rest of this story here. MORE FROM 404 MEDIA  Spoilers ahead for “The Social Reckoning.” Did you catch this week’s interview episode? Jason talked to former Facebook employee Frances Haugen, who became one of the most important tech whistleblowers in 2021 when she exposed how Facebook’s algorithm was pushing people toward hate groups, showed Instagram was making teen girls feel worse about themselves, and showed that the company knew about its detrimental impacts on society. Haugen’s story is the basis for Aaron Sorkin’s new movie “The Social Reckoning,” which follows her evolution from model employee to leaker to formal whistleblower. Jason and Frances discuss what the movie got right about journalist-source relationships and how AI is supercharging privacy concerns.  Listen to the weekly podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or watch the convo on YouTube. They note that in addition to advances in climate fingerprinting, global warming has also advanced: The post-2009 period included the 10 warmest years in instrumental surface temperature records, enhancing the signal of human-caused warming relative to the "noise" of natural variability. https://phys.org/news/2026-10-climate-fingerprints-reveal-stronger-evidence.html #ClimateChange #UpheavalClimate #ClimateInstability #ClimateReversal #MassAtrocity #pollution #ecology #environment #climate

If you actually read the “Passkeys are a trap. Do not use them.” post going around, you’ll find a transparent attempt to clumsily string together a conspiracy.

The post is predicated on the idea that a feature of WebAuthn called “attestation”, which is only used in high-assurance and usually corporate scenarios, and usually with physical hardware security keys, will be leveraged to hurt people, somehow.

The post posits that a website like X will bait and switch users: first, you get a passkey. Then, later, scary “attested” passkeys! This simply isn’t possible to do because attestation isn’t supported on the web for mass market, consumer authentication.

Attestation for passkeys (software-based, syncable credentials) is antithetical to their mass market goals, and would freeze out independent, non-corporate-backed credential managers. It’s an explicit non-goal of the designers of passkeys, who work together in a forum anyone can join.

And trust me, websites and apps like banks repeatedly asked for attestation at the beginning of the industry’s passkey journey. The platforms, browsers, and credential management apps have held firm that the goal of passkeys is reducing phishing and not some kind of trusted computing scheme. (And I will note: over my dead body!)

Besides the theory of the case being fundamentally wrong, there are several things that make the post disqualifying in terms of arguing something useful or important in the realm of security, privacy, and user authentication:

  1. Intentionally presenting things that are complicated as inherently suspicious. (Delivering security by design can be complicated, yes!)

  2. Describing TOTP as a “great solution” for adding security to a password-based account. When the most common threat model on the web is phishing (a word the post never mentions!), TOTP hardly buys you anything. TOTP is phishable.

  3. Seeming to be unbothered by how many logical leaps are being taken without actually understanding the topic being discussed.

There are bad things happening in tech and untrustworthy people and companies do exist, but they’re largely in the AI space, not the “let’s stop people we love from getting compromised through phishing” space.

The ucp traitors have already undermined the ability to investigate electoral fraud.

"The summary says the bill will also introduce a new threshold for investigations, putting the onus on a complainant to “provide a substantively completed investigation” before the election commissioner can even start looking into a complaint.

“We are not aware of any other jurisdiction in Canada that has imposed a similar standard to initiate investigations,” it says, noting that move would eliminate the majority of compliance work by the election commissioner.

And, if the bill passes, it would force the election commissioner to defend their decisions as a “quasi-prosecutor” before the courts if they are appealed, the document says.

McClure points to further concerns about the elimination of vote anywhere provisions, the removal of vouching for voter identification, and the change to timelines associated with special ballots."

If you’re still wearing a mask, thank you. Please know you’re not alone. Many of us still mask, test and isolate when sick. Being the lone masker can be difficult, but your long term health is worth it. As a high risk, immunocompromised person… I see and appreciate you!

@broadwaybabyto@zeroes.ca Thank you for continuing to highlight the importance of wearing a mask (respirator) Masking was important to us when I was the only one with a chronic illness, but now that my husband also has a chronic illness (different diagnosis) it's doubly important! Adding a selfie (from a few years ago) of how I'll be greeting the trick or treaters at the door - double masking! 😷 #COVID #CovidIsNotOver #WearAMask #YallMasking #Selfie
