@dsoft@techhub.social Recent Ghostery does a similar thing these days as well, BTW. It's really gratifying to visit a site and see the cookie settings dialog pop up and everything get set to "no" all by itself.

@dsoft@techhub.social Hmm, I think I will have to add this to my list of extensions. Anything that makes dealing with annoying cookie notices easier would be great.

@dsoft@techhub.social Wot we need is the preferences we set for one web site to be remembered and sent to all the others ... ... which I guess could be done with cookies ... ... ... ...

@dsoft@techhub.social thank you for sharing. Coincidentally I was recently wondering why cookie consent preferences can't be set up as standardised preferences within all browsers, and then websites made to silently pick up preferences automatically. I suppose it would be hard to standardise and roll out, so this is a fantastic work-around.

@dsoft@techhub.social Paging @KaraLG84@tweesecake.social. I think the above post might be what you're looking for in terms of an extension that automates consent pop ups.

@dsoft@techhub.social nice. this wouldn’t be necessary if regulators had forced businesses to accept the do-not-track flag or a similar standard.

@dsoft@techhub.social @donmelton@mstdn.social I've tried a lot of these tools including this one and none is even close to work as advertised. I'm still getting many cookie dialogs. Safari and/or Edge.

@dsoft@techhub.social Nice! I was looking for something like that yesterday. The answer is always “no”, and I really wish the law required a standardized “opt in”, with browsers having an easy way to auto decline all requests (more like iOS).

@DigitalStefan@mastodon.social 2023-04-04 16:25
@dsoft@techhub.social Please instead actively block tracking if you want to auto opt-out. Extensions like this seem like a good idea and they *do* signal to the site operator that you are making an informed opt-out decision. But... *vanishingly few* websites actually respect your opt-out choice. It's not malicious, they simply do not know how to stop your data being sent to the various 3rd-parties involved. It's often tricky to achieve. Source: Am reasonably expert in implementing this.

@dsoft@techhub.social Sounds useful. I'll give it a go. Reinventing the wheel with each new website is extremely irritating, especially when they break things down into different kinds of cookies, instead of a blanket 'Reject All'.
