  @hal_pomeranz when a family member asks me to help them with some problem on their computer I'm usually horrified by that state of their system: OS updates not applied in who-knows-how-long, browser version horribly out of date... And then there is the whole other issue with having 100+ browser tabs open, random browser plugins installed from sketchy sources, desktop completely filled with icons, etc.

  Random pop-up #3dPrinting project (episode 1): We had this snowman statuette with a string of lights powered by a couple of AAA batteries, but the battery door was missing. So, looking for more justification for having a 3d printer, I set about creating a new one. 1. Get measurements with a caliper. 2. Design in Tinkercad. 3. Export STL file from Tinkercad. 4. Load STL file into Bambu Studio and print it. 5. Sand off some rough edges and snap into place. 6. Claim victory.

  Caught a new #ransomware case from a client yesterday morning. Worked until around midnight last night. Up at 05:00 this morning (Xmas eve), stumble out of bed in the darkness, step in a cold wet squishy mess on the floor, immediately know it's cat puke... Quietly clean up cat puke without waking the wife, brew a double espresso, seat myself at my "command center", reauth with the dozen or so systems/services that I need access to and continue the investigation/analysis...

  @hal_pomeranz not much good to be said about Texas these days, but there is a state law here that prohibits HOAs from disallowing political signs from 90 days before to 10 days after a given election. It could be that your board doesn’t *want* to enforce the rule and, perhaps, historically has decided to look the other way… unless forced to take action due to neighbor complaints. But I would reach out to them and ask for an explanation.

  The internal process of trying to convince/poach people to leave their cushy IT security jobs to join the Incident Response team is like trying to crew-up a pirate ship. Same pay, more stress, and shitty hours...but, but swashbuckling excitement!* And we can't offer the prospect of prize money nor have the last resort of the "press" (i.e., kidnap them and get them aboard just as the ship sets sail) *occasionally, ymmv, have to be vague when telling war stories #DFIR...
