"Who needs labels anyway?" sounds progressive, but isn't. A 'label' can give people language for their experiences, a basis for organising, and access to a community. The interesting question - I think - isn't whether we have categories or not (we do. Ask any librarian or linguist). It's who gets to make and use the categories... and for what purpose. 💟 #Autism #ActuallyAutistic #ADHD #AuDHD #Neurodivergent #SocialJustice #EpistemicInjustice

Is empathy a less reliable basis for morality than people tend to assume? A thread on empathy, morality, and autistic reasoning ♾️ Empathy works a bit like a spotlight. It illuminates a certain bit of the landscape – the bit that’s in front of us, or that we choose to see – but not all of it. That's a problem if we confuse empathy with morality. Herman, in 'Trauma and Recovery', points out the rather fundamental problem. The thing researchers were trying to explain in those studies into abused women was men’s violence. Yet they were looking for the explanation in the characteristics of the women the men are violent towards. Men’s violence is men’s behaviour, and yet an enormous amount of effort has gone into trying to explain it by examining women. ♀️👀 3/13 #Feminism #EqualRights #SocialJustice #GenderEquality

Feeling my way here as I'm a technoprat. Took me ages to see how to post #OldNewbie. Nearly got chucked out for never posting so decided to bite the bullet.
