The interesting question - I think - isn't whether we have categories or not (we do. Ask any librarian or linguist). I just tried for the third time, and I know all the kitty-holding techniques. It's hopeless, he gets violent. I don't want him to feel stressed and miserable everyday. I called the pharmacy and they said they could make a transdemal gel I could put in his ears instead, for $65. I don't have that money, I just put everything into helping my housemate prep for her trans bottom surgery (she left for the appointment in Charlottesville today!). I was and still am a "picky" eater. Everything plain, except for BBQ and cheese sauce. I've never eaten ketchup, mustard, or any of the condiments and sauces most people like, aside from when my order was wrong and I didn't check before I bit into my sandwich. Lesson learned. One day, it hit me that it's probably unusual to have eaten like that for 40 years. I'd never thought much about it until after I was diagnosed. #Autism #Adhd #Audhd #ActuallyAutistic

It still frustrates the Hell out of me that medical descriptions of autism rarely mention sensory issues. They seem to only focus on outward appearance and behavior—how it affects everyone else, not how it affects us. On a daily basis, the sensory issues are a bigger concern than anything else, but that rarely gets mentioned. It's so buried that many people don't even know that it is part of autism. That's probably why, to this day, people still only self realize very late in life. #PetPeeve #ActuallyAutistic
