Any #DVD experts here? I recently bought a DVD of the Ali G Show Movie and somehow it didn't work on my desktop DVD drive (Panasonic Matsushita SW830 DVD-RAM drive), only detecting it blank. I'd forgotten how thoroughly ruthless and unlikeable the Atoll's inhabitants, along with #KevinCostner's Mariner, start off in this movie, but damn if #JamesNewtonHoward's pirate inspired soundtrack doesn't elevate this with a sense of high adventure. Demonwarp starts out as a normal slasher flick with a skunk ape shaped killer like you find for a dime a dozen in sasquatch cinema circles. Then goes off the rails in the third act. I'm watching a time travel / past life / alternate timeline story (I'm being fuzzy on identifying details because I don't want to spoil it for anyone), and I've finally hit the beat where the female lead explains to the male romantic lead why she knows what she knows... ...AND HE BELIEVES HER. 🔥 This is truly one of my favourite tropes and one of the hottest scifi/fantasy + romance tropes of all time. Is this because women and other marginalized people are so rarely believed and supported by cis men / members of dominant cultural groups? Yes, it is: we are hungry to be seen and believed. Want to knock the socks off of marginalized people (or at least this girl)?
