Huh, I saw the play many decades ago. It'll be interesting to see how the movie adapts iy.

I liked one (1) thing about the movie. The scenes where it becomes clear that the time-thingy was going to collide with itself. Nice. Actual time-travel trope.
Hey #Monsterdon!
I'm catching up with my backlog of podcasts, and the second most-recent episode (no. 877) of The Skiffy and Fanty Show has as its subject that classic 1980s movie, a Monsterdon selection, The Stuff!

"Devil's Hopyard."
Well it's more impressive than Plymouth Rock.
The Dunwich Horror (1970) coming up in just a few minutes!
As always, mute (or follow) the #Monsterdon hashtag to avoid (or stalk) the amazing critiques of this eldritch movie*.
- No guarantee of eldritchness for the time being.

I never knew the collective members of Monsterdon were such anti-tea fanatics. I'm taking it a little personally.

Well, I had to check: the highest building in Chicago in 1957 was the Prudential Building, at 601 feet/183 meters.

The Wolfen (book) came out eight years before Communion, so this is well before Strieber decided he was part of the alien abduction in-group too (yes, my opinion is cynical).
About the only thing I know about the movie is that they used actual wolves instead of huskies.

Also, in case you're unfamiliar with it, a postal order (money order in the U.S.) is a way of sending money without using a bank check.
You give the clerk the money you want to send, they create the money/postal order, you mail it with your order. It was very useful if you didn't have a bank account or if you wanted to send an international order.

I usually put more posting text in the image's alt text than I do in the post.
I'm often frustrated by how often the alt text reporting bot ranks my instance. Sometimes we get over 50%, but not often.

It occurs to me that I've missed out on a lot of YA books that are famous. The Golden Age of YA books seem to have begun just after I left the Teen section of the library behind.

Yup, this is what I have on my laptops and it's been working well for a few years now.
I'm curious, does anyone know why they started offering that option? I was glad to see it, but I was surprised that an organization with a positively viewed distro would split the brand, to use marketing-speak.

That's very good. I like mini-docs like that.
I don't have anything comparable, so I'll just post this link to a mashup I came across while looking up theme songs I liked.
I had no idea who Pierre Henry was.

Orson Scott Card had a story with a similar theme, though I think the artists in question were musicians.

Depending upon my route, I bike by this building occasionally.
In person, it's a nice-looking building. I do remember thinking, the first time I saw it, "The Elks? Really?"

I probably should have just linked directly. The novelization of the play is on Project Gutenberg, see the External Links section.

The detective.
Yeah, the reveal was from an angle that we haven't seen before. It doesn't help.
I remember having the same problem with The Jagged Edge. People were literally asking, Wait, so who was the murderer?

I did, with the caveat that it is a little old-fashioned (I mean, 1920 production after all) and that a hundred years later you may be familiar with the plot twist.
But there's an over-the-top comedic character, a decently spooky setting, and the bus load of junior high school students who were in the audience too had a blast.

I was looking up movies to play for October.
The Vast of Night seemed like a good choice and... it's not available anywhere in North America?
No disc, no streaming, nothing.
It's only seven years old. What happened?
