Agreed: my intention isn't to oversimplify the problems or ignore systemic issues.
This slide offers an overview of just some of the Theories of Change we apply through trauma-informed digital games created for young people.
We cannot ignore cultural norms - or impacts at community & relationship levels. (And some of the games are intentionally designed to shift those norms among adolescents.)
We know that these are only steps in the right direction, not a panacea.
But: taking these steps will help future generations begin at a point further down the path than we are today.

Looksmaxxing: misogynistic incel ideology going mainstream
Antisocial AI smartphone apps used as gateway to toxic manosphere:
(1) Quantification
Incels believe everybody has a “sexual market value” & these apps assign numerical scores based on obscure AI calculations.
(2) Gamification
Users scores are tied to specific ranks users are promised the ability to “ascend” to a higher rank.
(3) Reframing
These apps target young men struggling with self-confidence, making false promises of a "recipe for ascension".

I am aware of only a few nonprofit orgs on Mastodon. And I have had ZERO success trying to convince any to use Mastodon.
❓ Although #Mastodon shows much love for prosocial *causes* there's not nearly as much for *orgs* doing that work. Why?
Last week, I was honored to speak to the 2026 cohort of Project TIDAL about how trauma-informed video games can be used to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality caused by intimate partner violence (#IPV).
The thoughtful questions and insights from the early career researchers was very encouraging!

Our biggest concern is that Apple had approved us to accept in-game donations using Apple Pay in the free games we have in the App Store.
We were going to integrate that functionality in the new version of our games. Unfortunately, Stripe is the processor.
