I boost BIPOC accounts, women and 2SLGBTQIA voices. Some of them are CW adverse due to genocide, silencing and eradication efforts. If you don't like that, mute my boosts. I try to CW my political rants. And I don't boost spam posts.

I don't respond to any DMs unless they come from my Instance, re: Admin and Mod communiques. They're insecure, if you DM me it will be ignored. All of my posts auto-delete.

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social I don't think anything of the words until someone decides to change their behaviors and actions... I can say "I am the Dolphin King, loved by all cetaceans!" as much as I want and run around like an idiot. When I'm doing any of that it in the desert, what I am doing is of no benefit to any dolphin. (Or anyone else at all.)

@celesteh@hachyderm.io @mcc@mastodon.social "We are a nation of laws", and yet corporations training an LLM can blow off copyright and trademark, while the rest of us get our lives ruined if we post an MP3 in the wrong place or create a meme with a pissy corporation's logo up front even as a parody. "That's not unethical, that's just unfair" is not true. Also "they have enough money to defend theirselves, you don't" is ignoring mens rea. We can't pick what laws we ignore. Only a judge can, but Trump has all but a few of them bought off at the circuit and SC level. Finally, ethics isn't a grey area. Everything has implications. EVERYTHING. If they didn't we wouldn't need courts and lawyers. (I'm not answering this doucheweasel, but happy to arm someone who needs it with something to stand on.)

@Blender@mastodon.social It is truly an era where a tool to help artists is being funded by a tool to steal art and both sides wants artists placated while keeping the money. It is like learning to paint with a specific brush only to learn that brush is sending my artwork to hundreds of other easels, while the brushmaker is telling me to shut up and keep painting. When put into those terms, the simplest answer is for the artists to walk away from all of it. Make new tools yourself, and to hell with everything else.

@bwana@discordian.social @flesh@transfem.social @davidgerard@circumstances.run @Walruths@mastodon.social Why #FuckMozilla and why I abandoned Firefox on all my devices: Mitchell Baker left, cause "she gets a big salary for the lowest user counts in Mozilla's history? WTF?" New CEO during Google's antitrust trial did a pivot of Mozilla "from an open source and public benefit company to an Advertising Provider to compete with Google." (Makes no sense? Agreed. Privacy-first and advertising do not mix. You have to lie to one to do the other.) This was because of fear of losing their annual multi-million dollar payout of "here's development money to keep Firefox alive so Chrome can flourish" and in return making Google the default search in Firefox, so Mozilla quietly announced this. (The payout was Google's dodge for anti-competitive behavior.) Google's antitrust trial petered out, no real impact. Firefox payout from Google still happens, Mozilla still full speed ahead on competing with Google for advertising. Also, they're making an "open source" AI product. The Firefox mascot will be the AI product, more or less. (Again, makes no sense: how can it be open source if training data is private?) There, that should catch you up for the last 26 months. https://www.theregister.com/on-prem/2024/06/18/mozilla-buys-anonym-betting-privacy-is-compatible-with-ads/1042316 https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2024/02/mozilla-lays-off-60-people-wants-to-build-ai-into-firefox/ Op/Ed along the same route: https://www.theregister.com/software/2025/06/17/firefox-is-dead-to-me/630985

@bwana@discordian.social @davidgerard@circumstances.run @Walruths@mastodon.social A bunch of business oriented folks shoving a product down the consumers throats and telling their existing base to "love it or leave", I wouldn't be at all shocked if the new CEO doesn't back Trump. He may not has said as much, but the actions are loud enough to me. In this era of authoritarianism, if you refuse to speak out against it, you're not against it. Second thing to consider: Most pivots do not pretend to keep a "failed product" or two alive. They kill them and use the bones for their nonsense, but doing that would indicate confidence that Mozilla has a plan instead of courting investment and keeping their foot in the door. The only thing that would restore my confidence is the CEO stepping down and someone else takes the reins saying, "this is dumb, let's walk it back." Like SourceForge's nonsense six years ago of spreading malware for profit, then a new owner shutting that plan down.

The Onion takeover of Infowars is almost complete.

After a back-and-forth in court in 2024, it appears that The Onion really might take control of Alex Jones’ Infowars. The New York Times reports that under a new deal, The Onion will strike a licensing deal for Infowars intellectual property (though a judge still needs to approve it). The Onion is already promoting the new project, which will be under the creative direction of Tim Heidecker. [Media: https://bsky.app/profile/timheidecker.bsky.social/post/3mjwzo2lso227]

@crazyeddie@mastodon.social @quinn@social.circl.lu Mechanically and physically, printing on paper is a solved problem. It has been for years. If it goes wrong, 9/10 the device itself has a mechanical fault. Updates do not improve a printer's performance more than it attempts to fix mistakes made in manufacture. Get a Brother HL model, small paper toaster for $120 at an office store and maybe one replacement toner cart. Don't install shit. Windows and Mac will use it the moment you plug it in. Print, then unplug it. Same as a webcam if you aren't an influencer or creator, don't leave something you use 15-30% of the time plugged in constantly because it's easier. Put it away. If it makes you feel better, buy a wheelie cart to roll it to wherever you want to print from. Do not network it. If it breaks, its cheap enough to replace eventually. Take it offline. Use a USB Cable. Before they lock out that use case next. You don't need updates on something that isn't on a network.

Stands to reason that if the prior technique of "fuzzing" (another automated way of discovering bugs) has false positives, so will AI. In fact, I'd be surprised that it isn't a statistically significant number of false positives. 2.) Since Mozilla is all-in for AI and no longer interested in customers (except as cattle), Firefox's days are likely.longer behind it than ahead before it becomes an AI client for them. The brand is all they care about, not the users.
