mastodon 4.7.2Long time educator and lapsed academic, transitioning to my new life as a personal trainer. Still committed to trauma-informed practices. Fierce Luddite -- in the original sense. I don't take kindly to unsolicited advice-giving and mansplaining. Typos come on a regular basis. Promotion of ai is an immediate block.

@cap_ybarra there was a meeting I had like that where the male manager was yelling at all the female waitresses for what a shitty job they were doing and everyday I regret not walking out of that meeting.

@blogdiva@mastodon.social I may have said out loud in one of the classes that I teach: it’s not wrong to steal (share) from unethical capitalist companies.
Replying to
@markhurst@mastodon.social there are so many problems with this article. The first being the researchers relied on standardized tests as an accurate measure.

@ombialik@mastodon.world this is true of any type of lower level student work. Undergrad work is based on developing those skills. Using ai to write an essay or outline a speech is doing all the work students are supposed to be developing. Those older profs are so far away from undergrad work that they’re not taking these things into consideration.

@GoodAaron@mastodon.social Is it supposed to be stream of consciousness bc it comes across that way. A mighty run-on regardless.

@thepurpleoctopus@lgbtqia.space soooo the humanities are not the same as the social sciences. Both of which we need.

@climatebrad@mastodon.social @pluralistic@mamot.fr all that I’m reading from doctorow is making me never want to work again, which is a problem bc I like eating and having a roof over my head.

@dianea agreed. But now I have the smol and not smol system. Quit giving us *more* alternatives.

@leemadgwick@mastodonapp.uk ok, maybe it’s just me but this reminds of a pic of a house I took years ago in China. It’s a fascinating painting btw.

@christymarx@beige.party that is wild! I get scams for academic writing and such but they’re all super generic from mailing lists. I wouldn’t be so hard on yourself though. These people are professionals and quite good at what they do. I did enjoy the part where the cats came into the picture. Every good scam needs a cat. Or six.

@eanakashima@hachyderm.io what’s it called in whitewater rafting when the raft flips and you have to save yourself? Hypothetically. Not that this has ever happened to me. Twice. Also, we’ll done!
Replying to
@emma_cogdev yep, just a little kindness can make all the difference.

@Lanske@mastodon.social we really appreciate that. There have been others who say things to the effect of we deserve it -- something I wouldn't wish on other people living through difficult political times -- so the support is priceless.

@Saltssaltgirl awwww, I'm an adjunct at a cc, so that means I'm poor too, but I'll donate my amazon points. :)

@BlakeHamiltonCA Our systems are not prevention focused. We would rather lock people up after the fact than prevent the crime in the first place.

@ebel@moytura.org yay! I hope that for myself as well. 💗

@janesuh5 I was watching it again for a while on Hulu too. I mostly watch everything on pirated sites now. Those companies don’t need the money more than me.

@OpenTech_AUC@social.edu.nl they need something exactly like this but including all of academia. As someone with a PhD in ed tech, I’d love to sign something like this.

@maggiejk@zeroes.ca @digichelle@hachyderm.io It is certainly a monumental challenge, but baby steps as still steps in the right direction. The moral arch of the universe and all . . .

@lisamelton@mastodon.social there’s a lot of garbage in this thread, and frankly, it’s depressing. Wishing you well and hoping you get all the support you need and deserve. 🙏🏻💗
Replying to
@lisamelton@mastodon.social it’s not hard to be kind to each other but some people treat it like you’re asking them to hand over their first born. Why be that way?? More compassion and kindness. Less doubling down on erroneous beliefs.

@Lainey@mindly.social @irisRichardson@mastodon.art Exactly. It’s incredibly hard to be a healer and live in the world as it is.

@GoodAaron@mastodon.social maybe stream of consciousness isn’t the right phrase, but I was trying to get at a whether the author was intentionally trying to evoke a mood or if it’s just poor writing?
