Today is “There Will Come Soft Rains” day. A short story by Ray Bradbury, first published in 1950. It takes place on August 4th 2026. A lone automated house still functions after its owners and presumably the rest of humanity were wiped out by a nuclear blast.

Pretty sure I just witnessed a dust devil! I was sat in the pool in the garden when a sudden really strong gust of wind started up. Like, unusually strong. I looked up to see a bunch of dust and leaves and bits of grass flying round in a cylinder overhead. It went over the neighbours house and then suddenly everything was as still as before.

Spent nearly 6 hours today playing a game where you organise and shelf books in a library. Highly recommend. And it’s <£5 right now. https://store.steampowered.com/app/4197610/Librarian_Tidy_Up_the_Arcane_Library/

I’d like to create a border in our garden but every time I’ve tried everything gets demolished by slugs immediately. Egg shells and copper tape were inadequate, beer traps were messy and I kept forgetting them. Looking for recommendations on how to keep the buggers away please! We do have cats that roam in the garden so toxins also aren’t ideal. In the UK if that makes any difference. #Gardening

D got me a book nook for our anniversary. He didn’t notice the difficulty rating. I love Lego but I’ve never done anything like this before - models, airfix etc. It’s really tricksy but I’m mostly pleased with my progress so far.

Dwcon veterans who are also going this year or who are in the groups etc, does this vagueness and delay with the hotel booking happen often? I feel like if the hotel has been booked out for the duration then I’m not sure why being able to book has been delayed and why there seems to be so much chaos. Or maybe I’m just projecting my anxiety about this? I’m not going to start kicking up a fuss with the committee volunteers if it’s the hotel that’s the cause of the delays. I mean, I’m not going...

If the tech bros are going to continue denying that consent exists, I’m going to need them to stop forcing me to be polite when refusing their AI or other bullshit. I don’t want to click “maybe later” but I also don’t want to click “no thanks”. If you’re just going to ask again in X amount of time regardless, I want an option that says “fuck off”.

I started HRT on Thursday and today I feel like ass. My uterus is made of spikes. I better not be getting my first period in about 10 years ☹️

@sharongascoigne@mastodonapp.uk yea I’m worried that ironically it’ll be menopause that causes my periods to return. My mirena has completely stopped them for over 10 years now and I am happy to go through the immense pain to replace it if it continues that way. Not sure it’s worth it otherwise. I’m not overly keen on the patches so far but I’m trying to give them a reasonable go.

Can I reach any other afab non-binary folks who’ve gone through / are going through menopause? I have an appointment with my GP this week to talk about HRT and other options to help with some symptoms I’m having. Obviously I’d like the symptoms to stop / lessen but I admit I’m feeling kind of uncomfortable with the idea of my body changing or behaving “more feminine” if that makes sense. I’ve had a mirena coil for years and my periods have been nonexistent and I *love* this. I do not want t...
