@stux@mstdn.social Yes, it can, and I'm sorry you're in that situation.

@stux@mstdn.social I survived something similar. I understand where you are. I only wish I had done something sooner. Be well.

@stux@mstdn.social You're loved. I would claim your for a son in a heartbeat, you and your little orange fur babies. And I wouldn't even ask you to develop and administer my website. :blobhajhugsmall:

@stux@mstdn.social I'm so sorry to read this. Armistead Maupin has written about the "logical" family (as opposed to the "biological" family.) Sometimes it's the family of choice (the logical family) that ends up meaning more to us than the family of birth. Maupin was referring to what so many LGBTQ+ people go through, but it can impact anyone. Big hugs to you.

@stux@mstdn.social I’m sorry, Stux. I have such stories. The sense of loss never goes away, even as we deny contact because they are so very toxic. Hugs!

@stux@mstdn.social Fledging and flying away is a perfectly normal thing to do.

@stux@mstdn.social You are handling this in the absolute best possible way. My favorite saying is “Sometimes, the only way to get the assholes out of your life is when they throw you out.”

@stux@mstdn.social I know all about that. You can’t choose your family, but at least they seem to live far enough away. Have a lovely evening and a peaceful night all the same.

@stux@mstdn.social you can choose your friends but not your family. Hope this helps you draw a line under things and move on.

@stux@mstdn.social My father and I had a complex relationship (I was raised by grandparents and aunt.) I started doing all his paperwork, taxes, accounting, etc in 2012 after we "rebuilt" our relationship. By 2016, that had failed due to his behavior. He got mad and threatened to come get all his files. I told him to come get them and I was done. I took all the files, put them in a large storage crate and just mixed them up. No way they could easily pull any info from them without lots of time sorting. Years later, after he died in 2022, that plastic crate of files was still mixed up like balls in a lottery machine. lol.
