I met up with a co-designer today at a cafe/workspace that was about half way between where we live - which would be several hours' drive. It was great to work on our game in a physical form, and we spent a load of the time trying various configurations of the game, just playing the first few turns to see how long it takes for the game to settle into its flow. The early stages of the game can be vulnerable to some random factors providing frustration, and we now have a mitigation for that which seems to work pretty well. A whole heap more testing is required, obvs.
Rob Harper (he/him)
UK-based designer (and player) of board games, carver of spoons, cooker of pies, blower of harmonicas, wrangler of computers, binder of nals, etc. Master of none of these.
I can't find my tool that I got for making holes in things.
Awl is lost.
(Actually a true story)
Taking a break on my way home from Bastion, so might as well catch up...
Day 3 started with a nice morning of pottering around Conwy town, then back to the hostel for...
- The Red Cathedral
- Sail to India
- Ark Nova
- Ponzi Scheme
- Timelancers
- Herbaceous
Then finally day 4, when I just got to play 1 game before starting the drive home...
- Sanctuary
My first plays of both Ark Nova and its sibling/offspring, Sanctuary, and from first impressions, I much prefer Sanctuary.
Also, Ponzi Scheme is ridiculous in the best possible way.
A great weekend overall.
Howdy. Does anyone here have any suggestions for board game reviewers based in the UK who cover family games? This is for a game that has already been published, but could do with a little more visibility. (I often describe it as ideal for adults with kids, or adults with drinks - though the drinks are really optional.)
If that might actually be you, please feel free to DM me.
My day job is in an open-plan office and there are often multiple conversations going on close to my desk, which has been increasingly stressing me out.
Then I remembered that my work desk at home (where I work 1 or 2 days a week) has noise-cancelling headphones, while my desk at the office just has a more basic headset. I have now swapped the two headsets over, and my life has instantly improved quite a lot.
Yay for the right technology in the right place!
