I was a pretty avid reader growing up and I think I just kinda noticed them. And I used to get a little confused when my teachers kept knocking me for “run-on” sentences, when the books I read often had long-structured sentences. Commas, semicolons, ellipses, em dashes, colons, parentheses — sprinkle them about and you can have a paragraph of a sentence (with side thoughts), and kinda do whatever you want… it’s all about using “voice” through written word. (Period)

I use them almost like a semicolon — a longer pause to break up the sentence, where a comma just wouldn’t cut it. Idk how correct I am either, it’s more about trying to convey my voice and how I would like the sentence to be read. I’m not a much of a grammar nazi, more like a grammar anarchist

What triggers your spidey sense that you can tell it’s slop? I can see it after it’s been called out, but I feel like I’m not catching it instantly (like an uncanny valley) I can now see that: the yellow dick is the only one with a urethra, the hand around it fades from green to yellow, the faces look like caricatures instead of photoshop (too smooth), and the green dick is the only one slightly obscured by a face But I hate that I don’t (almost) instantly notice, so maybe I need to pause for a second and consider if it’s slop… because it’s so rampant? What sticks out to you that you can call it? Edit: it’s the faces, isn’t it? Like poorly drawn and too well done at the same time? Or that nothing is symmetrical in a weird way? I agree, multiple perspectives is absolutely key and using any one source for history or politics will be problematic. Wikipedia is absolutely bias with Western ideology, but it’s not exactly a propaganda machine. I always use it like you’re taught in school, that Wikipedia is not a source. Depending on how deeply you would like to learn about a subject, it’s a great start to finding sources. Unfortunately biased with Western bullshit, absolutely, as is everything coming out the west I guess I am derailing the conversation if we’re just talking about and calling out Wiki’s Western bias. I would also hate for people to think it’s automatically not informative because of it’s bias… cause everything has one. Multiple sources and viewpoints, like you said, is the way to go

Nobody escapes propaganda. Learning and trying to understand your own bias is the best you can do. Unless you have a source for perfect objective truth that you’d like to share?

Well shit, dreams crushed lol In all seriousness, I appreciate the honest reply. I never intended to master any of my instruments, but always wanted to get over this "plateau" that I experience with all of them. It feels so good when you can finally play what you keep hearing in your head, even just a little bit. The closest I've gotten is with my guitar and ukulele, but similar to learning a new language, I lose fluency when I stop practicing And I know it just comes down to practice, I guess sometimes you need someone to spell it out again. So thanks friend, I'll keep playing

Yeah, I have 1Gb fiber but all of my equipment is old and none of it can even utilize the entire Gb. I only keep it because I got a deal on it when they first ran fiber, had issues with someone severing the fiber to my house (like 12 times when "gardening"), and now I'm grandfathered-in to a cheaper price... so I keep it for whenever I do upgrade something. Which should be soon, if I ever get back to setting up my home server

It’s not? Being informed is always positive, and it’s always unfortunate that bias exists. I’d rather learn and try to understand my own bias, as opposed to being ignorant and having bias anyway Do you have a tool that is just as accessible as wiki, but perfectly objective? Or are you throwing the baby out with the bath-water? Knowledge is good for any culture, and bias is a motherfucker to us all. Your critique isn’t unwarranted, but it does flirt with anti-intellectualism

It’s ok, I was today years old when I learned about this. Also about the Guinness World Records. “Wtf ever” is how I’m handling it
