Today we are calling on institutions around the world to take control of their #DigitalSovereignty, including their social accounts. Governments should communicate directly with their citizens on open platforms, not through the mouthpiece of a corporation.
Imagine a social network that can’t be bought, sold, or controlled by a billionaire.
A place where communities govern themselves, and your data stays yours. That's Mastodon. Join us in turning that vision into reality.

Busy week! We're preparing to meet the community at #FOSDEM at the weekend. Some members of the team will be at various events around Brussels from Thursday. As well as @haubles@hachyderm.io talk on the #socialweb track on Saturday, @mellifluousbox@mastodon.social will be on a panel on the Policy track on Sunday. Plus, you'll be able to buy stickers and pins on our stand to #SupportMastodon

(The reason we’re starting with the apps and not the web is because the necessary data to run this experiment is already provided through the app store. It is more complicated to do this right for the web, and we want to think carefully about how to do this in a way that respects privacy.)

The third in our blog post series is by @haubles@hachyderm.io - sharing our work and ideas around how to grow and nurture the community, for everyone. #Mastodon #Fediverse #SocialWeb
We believe the internet should be a place where everyone feels safe, respected and empowered to connect.
That’s why this #GivingTuesday we’re launching a campaign to fund a vital new role at #Mastodon:
✨ Trust & Safety Lead ✨
With the recent US elections and many changes to come, protecting our community has never been more important.
We officially kick off on *Tue, Dec 3rd* but if you’d like, you can make an impact today. Thank you for your support!
