The future of farming does not need to be built on cages, slaughterhouses, milking parlours, hatcheries, fishing vessels, and feedlots. It can be built on food. Actual food. Not someone’s body.

Octopuses in captivity try to escape, even dismantling their tanks. They don’t ‘belong’ to marine parks - they’re prisoners planning their next move 🐙

Even if you don't care about justice, farming animals is a waste of resources.

Scientists removed much of mice’s cerebral cortex and implanted human brain tissue. Why? Because mice are poor models of human disease. If the problem with animal testing is that mice aren’t human, why are we still using them? 🐀

A flesh-eating parasite is back in the US. Horses and a dog are infected. But while animals are being eaten alive, the conversation turns to trade, cattle supplies and beef prices.

Animal farming is one of the largest sources of greenhouse gas emissions globally, particularly methane. It is also one of the most climate-vulnerable systems humans have built. This creates a feedback loop that is as brutal as it is predictable.

What happens when we flip the roles, when humans are farmed, hunted, skinned, experimented on, and paraded around for entertainment, while other animals run the world?
Does showing people a parallel universe push them to confront their supremacy?

Humans can leave the trees standing and still destroy the forest. In Malaysia, white-handed gibbons living beside a highway called far less often than those in quieter areas. Noise pollution is changing what habitat means 🌳

Ending hen cages and pig farrowing crates may reduce certain forms of confinement. It does not end confinement. It does not end killing. It does not end the logic that animals exist for us.

A leading UK food-safety scientist is now calling for warning labels on processed meat. Professor Chris Elliott, founder of the Institute for Global Food Security at Queen's University Belfast, has told a new BBC Panorama investigation that there is a strong link between nitrates and nitrites used in products such as bacon and ham and bowel cancer. He has criticised the Food Standards Agency's response and called for warning labels on packaging.
