Why has nobody made a hot air gun thingy for electronics work that runs off usb-c PD? Small, efficient but good enough for hobby use.

I'm really struggling lately with policing my kids internet access... I have two modes of thought: 1) the modern internet is a horrible place where kids can access content that is bad for them in a number of ways. I need to tightly control access. 2) I wouldn't be who I am now if I didn't have unrestricted and unsupervised access to technology growing up. I'm an anarchist for good and I'm only who I am because I got access to unfiltered knowledge Nerd p...

There's a delivery company in the Netherlands that seem to handle a lot of stuff from China. The deliver using electric Bakfeits and overall, I think they're awesome. There's just one thing. They don't mark the parcel as out for delivery until they hand it over. So the doorbell rings (unexpectedly) you take the parcel then you get a flood of emails and notifications saying the parcel is on its way. Its just so backwards!

If you want to see my #cyberdeck in action here’s a short and very boring video: https://youtu.be/S-J9JCn3G9I?si=U7cRasgFOJQSHuE6

Hey #linux folks. Can anyone recommend a distro or way of working that doesn’t feel totally shit on a 5” touchscreen? I’m taking my cyberdeck to the next level and want the oomph of an SBC rather than a microcontroller but don’t want to go crazy on size. I’m thinking I may just go with a terminal interface and a custom launcher again rather than a full OS but I’m open to other ideas!

Currently on vacation and I’m seriously missing my tiny home makerspace. I’ve had so many thoughts and ideas for the next version of my cyberdeck and being away from home has forced me to doodle in my notebook and think through a few approaches rather than jumping straight into 3d modelling etc.

Anyone tried the dirt cheap 40W #solar charger that #Aldi recently started selling yet? https://www.aldi.co.uk/product/adventuridge-portable-solar-charger-000000000707382001

I finally wrapped up my custom mini #cyberdeck build last night. Uses a #waveshare ESP32-S3 touchscreen and a mini "OS" built using #circuitpython I wrote a blog post about the build (including links to download the #3dprint models and code) https://andywarburton.co.uk/post/gr3ml1n-a-compact-handheld-cyberdeck-built-for-chaos #electronics #diy #maker #esp32 #3dprinting

Been a while! Lately I’ve been hacking on this little #cyberdeck project. It’s very much in prototype mode at the moment but I’ve built a mini #circuitpython powered launcher that loads “apps” from the SD card and can be navigated by touch or keyboard navigation. The keyboard is hand-wired with tactile switches (to keep things compact) through a Pi Pico that talks to the main brain (a Waveshare ESP32-S3 2.8” touch screen) over UART and can be switched to work as a standalone keeb too.

Day 793 of building stupid shit nobody asked for. Today I developed an adapter that allows installation of a Nintendo Switch joystick cap on a PSP1000 Joystick Module so that I can put the whole thing into a mechanical keyboard.

Fucks sake, in a sleep deprived state I just ripped the thermistor header off the board on my Mk4. So angry at myself for making such a stupid mistake.

Just picked up this really nice rechargeable electric screwdriver set from Action for just €11! Absolute bargain with 25 bits! USB-C too! Should be great for keyboards and small electronics projects (and the bits feel about the same size as my ifixit kit too!). I just need to design and print a little charging dock! Forgot to mention… also fully metal enclosure too!

After over 20 years Amazon has finally decided to close the affiliate account for a website I removed from the internet 17 years ago (and never made a penny of commission from). Finally the monthly report emails will stop 😂

I’m so excited the UK is sending Look Mum No Computer to #Eurovision. I’m still not going to watch it this year but I’m glad the UK is sending something more exciting than the usual drivel.
