  just heard from my boss who teaches a group project course at a university that she had been required by the department to shoehorn in a certain number of projects involving AI and when she asked her class who wanted to take those on, the entire class of undergraduates voted those projects out because they were sick of being forced AI on every front the kids are alright :blobMeltSobLove:

  the fact that Meta is auto-translating videos on Instagram into English (for me watching in the US) is so aesthetically repulsive that i would probably be in jail if i knew where the people who ordered it made lived god forbid a person enjoy videos cross-culturally is it technically impressive that they can kind of get the voice resonance and intonation kind of right? sure but comedy especially is so precise in what is funny and what is not when it comes to intonation and timing and all that....

  my sister is training to become a hairdresser and needs hands-on experience and before-afters for her portfolio i've been dying to get my hair back to a full pink and wince at american hair salon prices so we put that together into a win-win and had her bleach and color (and blowout) my hair for half-price 7 hours later (no i am not joking, we were exhausted) the final result is the best my hair has ever looked in its pink era and maybe ever?? she had literally never bleached someone...

  haunted by the fact that when we had some weird results show up on an undergrad's experiment (as part of his final project for his degree) with fairly sparse data points that made it look like they came from a rather strange curve, i suggested that he quantify the uncertainty of the points (put in error bars) to help provide wiggle room for other, simpler curves to plausibly explain the data too and he just looked at me blankly like "huh i wonder how you would do that"...
