Classic Trump sleight-of-hand and misdirection.
Xi Jinping & Donald Trump agreed for China to buy 10m tonnes of US #coal in 2027 and 2028.
BUT in 2024, we exported 12m tonnes to China. When Trump put tariffs on China, they stopped buying it and it dropped to zero.
So Trump breaks something and then claims success when he seems to fix it.
And 10m tonnes is about 2% of US coal production, so this is no boost to the dying US coal industry.

@petergleick@fediscience.org @silicatefondue@fosstodon.org It is very expensive to ship coal across the Pacific, especially now with the disruption to global shipping due to Trump’s Iran war

@petergleick@fediscience.org but 10M Tonnes is an ecological step against #globalwarming - 20% better than 12M Tonnes.
