It might be appropriate to call voluntary AI users scabs. Stop feeding the machine dismantling our own labor! There isn't some basic income program. No utopia. Quality hasn't improved. Communities aren't healthier. The world isn't getting smarter. Instead we have crumbling communities, loss of skill, a terrible job market, lack of trust with almost every interaction online, massive creative theft, and a dying planet. Yeah, these people are scabs.

RE: https://mastodon.social/@cararemixed/117513305440553225 This isn't an endpoint itself. Labor is hard to align but we start by stating what needs to change, who is working against this change, and how we can help others join in the refusal who don't have those options yet. IMO, it should be illegal for an employer to require use of genAI while working. Maybe we need that drafted into law.

@cararemixed@mastodon.social I agree. I'm a scab at work. I live in capitalism and my first allegiance is to my family. I'm not going to risk the income I bring to them to stand on these principles, I literally cannot afford to. I work at a startup that helps community benefit organizations, not something like Meta or other literal enablers of genocide. If I'm a filthy, impure scab because I don't loudly try to shout at the shifting tide of AI at work, then fuck me.

  • @cararemixed@mastodon.social unfortunately our system is based on the sale of our labour. as a worker from a third world country, where workforce is meant to be cheap, we do not have the choice to refuse and not starve. that may be possible on your first world heaven tho...
