The Dutch have been studying bio-resilient cities for the past decade, protect existing trees in paving projects (often taking car lanes to give #trees more room to grow), and have added 1000s of new trees when improving bike lanes.
The result in #Utrecht is a cooler, more beautiful city to bike in.

@CathyTuttle@social.ridetrans.it @andrewg@mastodon.ie We used to have street like this also in my area, especially on roads connecting close villages (5/6 Km away from each other). But many have been cut down (and not replaced) either because they become fragile, or because they were dangerous for car traffic. 🤦♂️

@CathyTuttle@social.ridetrans.it Unfortunately, many streets in Utrecht are canals of brick and concrete, devoid of vegetation.

Do you know how they manage pavement-heaving by the roots? @CathyTuttle@social.ridetrans.it
