RE: https://mastodon.gamedev.place/@TomF/117414661851777592 At most tangentially related, but still amuses me when I remember it: Many years ago I bought an expensive pair of sunglasses. Not long after I left them on the front seat of the car, and later briefly panicked about whether that was a good idea. Then I considered the absurdity of them being labelled "Do not leave in direct sunlight" and the panic subsided

This week's piece is not a technical article but a personal essay about the TV series that fascinate me: https://phpunit.expert/articles/stories-about-systems-that-resist-people.html?ref=mastodon

There's no (good) reason *not* to apply these legal frameworks to the crypto industry - but there are plenty of *bad* reasons not to. The most obvious reason not to apply those regulations is that you are on the same side as the pump-and-dumpers, money launderers and stock swindlers. The reason we struggle to regulate fintech is that *we just don't want to*. 7/

4 Changes That Made Me A Better Trader In 2026 This year has been a very good year so far. I've seen some traders get frustrated with 2025 and 2026 because this has not been a normal market. Things are moving back and forth many times against a lot of conventional wisdom. We've got another tech bubble going on due to the AI craze, interest rates, while not historically high, have been held high based on the last couple of decades yet we keep hitting all time highs. And, of course,...

Saturday morning headline recap Requests have been made to tag these posts, so I will try to remember to tag them with #headlines every morning Lots of chatter about 3-D chess on the Supreme Court tariffs ruling. All I know is that if the consumer doesn’t have a domestically made alternative for a product, then a tariff is just another tax that we have to pay. (((Lutnick))), who was a prime mover in getting Trump to implement tariffs, was basically shorting the position that the tariffs wou...

Death and the Maiden, Marianne Stokes I like this Death, something about its expression, seems both somber and impersonal. Androgynous beauty? Look at those wings. The maiden seems vibrant and pure of heart, I want Death to let her live. But that's how things go. There are a couple of flower petals on the floor under the vase, maybe Death is there for the flowers. Idk I don't think Death is there for her. Just stopping by to say hi. Hi, Death. She will be changed foreve...

Rift Valley, Vandezande’s World, Tony Roberts, for the book Tour of the Universe (1980) by Malcolm Edwards & Robert Holdstock Imagination is a wonderful thing. I love the glowing rainbow mist, the weird pyramids. I want to see what goes on here. #art #scifiArt #mist #heaven #rift #pyramids #alien #home

I will definitely post some art tomorrow. New schedule is slowly sinking in. My brain is like goop nowadays 🫠

cover for Planet of Exile by Ursula Le Guin, Horacio Salinas Blanch more of these beauties here: https://wearethemutants.com/2018/06/11/horacio-salinas-blanch-cover-art-for-coleccion-super-ficcion-1976-1986/ so cool, the sun, the shadows, the bridges. Crossing a divide to a new land. I read this story, seems like there was a lot of cold weather, but I guess this could be a cold scene. I Love that the sun is in a black sky. That makes it for me. #art #scifiArt #coverart #paperbackCover...

Century Plant, Jerry Bywaters, 1939 so much twisting going on in this painting, not just the plant but the earth, the rocks, everything is twisted under implied pressures, and the pressures have a flow, or an opposition, wrestling back and forth through the scene. The tough plant in the middle is adapted and bares its serrated teeth at the challenge. In real life those plants are just like that, they have grit, they have substance ❤️ #art #grit #substance #guts #pressure #elements #hard #tee...

Souvenir (I saw another page listing this as "Memory"), Marianne Von Werefkin another twisting sort of scene. Interesting. I guess you could say that a lot of the artist comes through in her paintings, in an amazing way, a consistent way, imho... Her scenes seem like they should be normal but they aren't, they're spooky and even seething. hahaha. I have the impression that the woman on the stairs is Thinking About Things, it isn't a carefree life f...

By Ursula Schultze-Bluhm couldn't find a title. Like things are weird, but not in a weak way, they're weird in a thriving, vibrant, ornery way. Biological mutation and adaptation also come to mind. There has been a change and we have changed in response, the nuclear fallout, the alien invasion, the new dark gods, just pissed us off, woke this up in us. 🤣👾 ❤️ 🙏 🤪 👽 It's almost October, I can't wait, I have a self-imposed directive to post weird spooky crap in...

Otto Piene maybe this is a palate cleanser by Otto Piene, couldn't find a title. A burned up spot, annihilated, reused by the universe as greasy carbon and ash. To be reused by the universe is our destiny, to be welcomed back into the fold, where everything is warm and nothing hurts. I think this is a beautiful thing and I'm not sure where I'd put it. Not in the bathroom. Not in the kitchen. Maybe you could put this directly across from a Mark Rothko and there wou...

for Moonbane by Al Sarrantonio, Jim Burns I love SF-supernatural-horror crossover. I'm sold on the story, maybe I'll try to find it. "Moonbane" 🤣 . What happens if a werewolf that turns into a wolf on the full moon goes to the Moon? I'm guessing non-stop wolf 🤣 🤣 🤣 #art #paperback #coverart #moonbane #spooky #supernatural #sf #scifiArt #horror

Volaverunt (flown), from Los Caprichos, Francisco de Goya This is one of many weird prints in a series done by Goya and I like some better than others but it's worth checking out. This seems spooky but also possibly-probably social commentary. One of these seems to be having more fun than the others? Los Caprichos translates as "Caprices", and many of these are images of people who don't have the luxury of caprices. There are different opinions about it app...

Watch the Silence, Eric Roux-Fontaine Seems like there's a little spot here in this meadow where things are different and weird. And colorful. Not sure what the artist had in mind but I like the idea of a magic place, or maybe some kind of interdimensional junction, conditions are unique there, and maybe sometimes things come through. 👻 #art #spatter #colors #meadow #woods #portal #sparkles #magic #stalker #roadsidePicnic

The Ghost, Josef Mandl, 1898 idk it looks like the grave has been disturbed, the knocked-over cross, the shovel, the planks. Also something glowing at the base of the next headstone over. This ghost seems spooky but not the kind that is going to eat your soul? Maybe the danger here is getting bummed out on an otherwise nice trip to the cemetery. We came to put flowers on a grave and enjoy the cultivated landscaping but now we have to solve the case of the crying ghost! ruh-roh. Zoinks! 🎃...
