“In a normal park, we estimated there were about 30 species of wild bees,” says Jens Ulrich, a former University of British Columbia (UBC) PhD student who worked with the city between 2021 and 2024 to study the meadows’ ability to attract wild #bees and hoverflies. “In a park with a meadow, we saw that number jump up to something around 60 species per park – per year.” #rewilding #vancouver #bc #pollinators #meadows #parks #urbanrewilding #insects #canadahttps://www.rewildingmag.com/the-city-turning-lawns-into-pollinator-meadows/

📰 Fast‑growing Miyawaki Forests Are Transforming Cities Worldwide 🌏 Earth: Dense micro‑forests built from native species are cooling neighborhoods, restoring biodiversity, and reconnecting residents with nature, all within plots as small as a few hundred square meters. 🌳 By planting diverse species at high density, these forests rapidly form layered ecosystems that support pollinators, birds, and soil life, offering a nature‑based solution to urban heat, air pollution, and habitat loss. 🤝 More cities are treating green spaces as ecological infrastructure. Community groups, schools, and municipalities are turning vacant land into living forests, showing how individual and local action can reshape entire urban landscapes. 🔗 https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/science/from-tokyo-to-delhi-how-fast-growing-miyawaki-forests-are-reshaping-urban-landscapes-worldwide/articleshow/131652416.cms #SolarPunkSunday#UrbanRewilding #MiyawakiForest #NativePlants #ClimateResilience #Biodiversity #Sustainability

The first signs of recovery came with the monsoon, when a grass cover sprouted over the land. “Every day was a surprise after that,” he says. Soon, insects returned, followed by woodland birds like orioles, barbets and hornbills. The park is now home to diverse forms of life, including amphibians, invertebrates and several mammals like nilgai and the jungle cat. #rewilding #india #cities #urbanrewilding #ecology #nativeplants #reforestation https://www.rewildingmag.com/the-making-of-an-urban-forest/
