Signal schützt vor Massenüberwachung – und das zuverlässig. Ende-zu-Ende-Verschlüsselung, minimale Metadaten, Open-Source-Code. Kein anderer Mainstream-Messenger steht da besser da. Wer Angst vor seinem Mobilfunkanbieter hat, vor Vorratsdatenspeicherung oder vor dem neugierigen ISP – Signal ist die richtige Wahl. Wer hingegen ins Visier eines Geheimdienstes oder einer autoritären Regierung gerät, hat ein anderes Problem. Dann reicht kein Messenger der Welt. Dann muss das gesamte Gerät abgesichert sein – und selbst das ist gegen professionelle Spyware schwer. Signal ist kein Allheilmittel. The #Signal bashing is really something else. First one of the main criticisms was “You can’t have an account without a phone number.” Well, now you can (or will soon be able to), but are people happy? No! Now the song goes like “I want an Account without a phone number BUT NOT LIKE THIS!” 🙄 Yeah well then go use another messenger and try to get people to join. Good luck. In the meantime, #SignalApp is still the most accessible and privacy-focused alternative to #WhatsApp out there.

At this stage of the game, it seems incredibly stupid for #Signal to require people to set up a payment method with #Google to permit people to sign up for Signal without using a phone number. Better not to even offer that option than to force that behavior given that Google has gone full MAGA and really can't be trusted anymore.

And still there is no standalone desktop for non-nerds, so any desktop message anyway will end at the G or A controlled device.

#Homeassistant i jego powiadomienia: via #matrix czy #signal? Miałem Signal ale cały czas jest problem z utrzymaniem konta i numeru telefonu (koszty), natomiast matrix cały czas mam wrażenie (bardzo subiektywne!) że jest takim nie do końca zaufanym. Oczywiście mówię o zewnętrznym serwerze, nie własnym. Jak Wy macie to rozwiązane?
