Day 12 #spacetober_challenge is Roman Space Telescope so I made a portrait of its namesake #astronomer Nancy Grace Roman (1925-2018), NASA's 1st chief of astronomy throughout the 60s & 70s, who helped shape the space astronomy program. Nicknamed "mother of Hubble" for her role in planning the revolutionary Hubble Space Telescope, she was active in science communication & an advocate for #womenInSTEM throughout her career. 🧵1/ https://minouette.etsy.com/listing/4586474964 #linocut #printmaking #sciart #histsci

For #spacetober_challenge day 11 prompt crew or cargo spacecraft, my portrait of mathematician, aeronautical engineer, philanthropist and Cherokee ‘hidden figure’ of the space race: Mary Golda Ross (1908-2008). Great-great-granddaughter of Chief John Ross, who was forced to lead his people on the Trail of Tears, Ross attributed her success in math to the Cherokee tradition of encouraging equal 🧵1/ https://minouette.etsy.com/listing/634592877 #printmaking #sciart #womenInSTEM #Indigineer #linocut #mastoArt

Hi, I'm Tineke 👋 Over the past year, linocut printing has sparked my creativity: a creative outlet away from screens. It all started with a medieval rabbit wielding an axe 🐇🪓 About the name Studio Vro: vro is an old Dutch word for cheerful/happy (vrolijk). Here I'll share my prints, my process and my search for a style of my own. #introduction #linocut #linoprint #printmaking #beginnerartist

Day 5 of #spacetober_challenge by is space station, so I am sharing a tiny linocut print I made of the track of the ISS across the night sky. #linocut #printmaking #spaceArt #sciArt #mastoArt

Raccoon Greetings for Raccoon Appreciation Day! This is a portrait of a former neighbour who showed up at my back door like this, to enquire as to where I had moved the compost bin. So I took his photo and made a print. Toronto belongs to the raccoons. They just let us live here because we have good snacks. #Raccoon 🦝 #linocut #printmaking #wildlife #Toronto 🇨🇦

Hope you all are having a great weekend! I brought an old linocut block out (bear with coffee cup) and thought I'd try printing it on STICKER PAPER. it's oil based ink, so BAD NEWS: it'll take a week or so to dry GOOD NEWS: they should be waterproof!! Will let you know how it works out! #art #stickers #printmaking #linocut #bear #coffee #handmade #mastoArt #kentucky

Day 23 #SciArtSeptember prompt is copper so I am sharing my #linocut of the first woman to earn a doctorate in science, physicist and professor Laura Maria Caterina Bassi Veratti (née, & known throughout her life as Bassi, 1711-1778). I’ve shown her surrounded by the sort of state-of-the-art instrumentation she would have used in her lab to investigate electricity: an electrical machine, conductors, an aurora flask, a 🧵 https://minouette.etsy.com/listing/4436745646 #printmaking #womenInSTEM #histsci #physics

I've updated my website this evening. I've added new engravings and watercolours and ink sketches that span almost the full decade I've been dabbling in art. https://www.johnaltringham.co.uk #art #WoodEngraving #printmaking #watercolour #sketching #landscape #mountains #nature

Happy birthday to #mathematician, aeronautical #engineer, philanthropist and Cherokee ‘hidden figure’ of the space race: Mary Golda Ross (1908-2008). Great-great-granddaughter of Chief John Ross, who was forced to lead his people on the Trail of Tears, Ross attributed her success in math to the Cherokee tradition of encouraging equal education for boys and girls. 🧵1/ https://minouette.etsy.com/listing/634592877 #printmaking #sciart #womenInSTEM #Indigineer #SpaceRace #planetaryScience #linocut #mastoArt

I just finished a new linocut tomorrow I will experiment a bit with other color combinations. Currently I'm also setting up an online shop (but only with shipping inside Germany - it's complicated enough) #printmaking #linocut #cat #cats #sunset #MastoArt #print #art #NoAI #artprint #kawaiiart

Happy birthday to trailblazing American computer scientist Frances Elizabeth Allen (1932 – 2020) who made foundational contributions to optimizing compilers, optimizing programs and parallel computing. She was the first woman to become an IBM Fellow, where she worked from 1957 to 2002 and as an emeritus fellow afterwards. She was the first woman to win the Turing Prize. 🧵1/ https://minouette.etsy.com/listing/1086564033 #printmaking #womenInSTEM #histSTM #computing #mathematician #sciart #compsci

I designed the typefaces to suggest the meaning of the words. “Parliament” is in a gothic script. “Owls” has an owl eye for ‘o’ and the remaining letters are feathered. The owls are, right to left and top to bottom: the Eastern screech, Northern saw-whet, long-eared, Barred, Great Horned and the American Barn owls. https://minouette.etsy.com/listing/4337673774 🧵2/2 #linocut #printmaking #sciart #owls #typography #termsOfVenery #screechOwl #GreatHornedOwl #BarnOwl #InternationalOwlAwarenessDay

Since a while, we have a lent screen printing machine in the lab and one of our members is currently doing a lot of experiments with it. Happy birthday to #geologist & oceanographic #cartographer Marie Tharp (1920-2006), whose pioneering, thorough & complete ocean floor maps with Bruce Heezen, made using realms of echo sounder data, revealed the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. After studying #geology & math, Maurice ‘Doc’ Ewing at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory at Columbia hired her to draft 1000s of echo sounder profiles. 🧵1/5 https://minouette.etsy.com/listing/217247292 #sciart #printmaking #womenInSTEM #histsci #linocut

Linocut moths with cyanotype lilies of the valley! Moths are a hummingbird clearwing moth, Virgin tiger moth and a White underwing moth, all native moths here in Ontario. #multimedia #printmaking #linocut #cyanotype #moth

Happy birthday Rosalind Franklin (1920 – 1958), #chemist & x-ray #crystallographer whose x-ray diffraction images were instrumental to discovering double-helix structure of #DNA, made important contributions to #carbon & #virus research, was 1 of the great scientists of the 20th century. Watson’s bio lead some to (inaccurately) joke, “What did Watson and Crick discover?” “Rosalind Franklin’s notes.” While it’s important 🧵1/ #linocut #printmaking #WomenInSTEM #histsci #mastoArt #sciart
