The Green Party has released AI policy today as part of our general election campaign: https://www.greens.org.nz/ai_policy I’m pretty happy with it. There are some things I’d word differently for a more technical audience, but as something going out to all voters I think it strikes the right tone: “AI” isn’t magic, it’s software made by large, financially unstable overseas companies. Governments can and should regulate it to protect the environment, data sovereignty, and democratic accountability. #NZGreens #NZPol

I think I just watched the worst #NZQ&A interview I have ever seen. Tova O’Brien attempts to trip up #NZGreens co-leader Chloe Swarbrick on the need for a moratorium on #Ai centers plus fails spectacularly to defend the wealthy from paying taxes. The comments also make for interesting reading with many commentators supporting the Greens for the first time. This #NZPol election is going to be a turning point one way or another for #Aotearoa #NewZealand and I still hold hope it will be a turn for the better. 💚💚 https://youtu.be/DTb4k5e8Tm8

@MichaelaKHulse@mastodon.nz As far as I can ascertain the opportunist party doesn’t really appear to have any rational or logical basis for existing. They appear, to me, like a collection of idealists gathered around the single idea of a land tax solving the world’s problems. The Greens on the other hand are a well established political party with a strong ethos of addressing the existential crisis facing the people and planet. A vote for the opportunists is in my opinion a wasted chance to get the Greens into government, a position they have never held despite being the third most popular NZ political party. They should have been part of the Jacinda Ardern led coalition government in 2017 but the Winston first party ensured the Greens remained outside of cabinet in a position of confidence and supply. I highly recommend reading through all the Greens policies (more to be released) and consider the benefits for yourself, your whānau, your community and the future of a sustainable planet before deciding on your vote.
