With a mixed sense of sadness and achievement I'm letting you know my collection of science fiction and fantasy covers has run out! I'm going to put this account into Loop Mode where it posts everything all over again from day one, but there are thousands of them so a loop will take years. Thanks for your support! Coming soon, the same type of thing for classic Marvel comics covers. #Magazine #MagazineCover #PulpMagazine #PulpFiction #ScienceFiction #Fantasy #Horror #Art #Illustration

Astounding vol. 20, no. 1 (September 1937) I think whoever scanned this one must have cranked up the saturation because there's no way these colours survived since 1937 but hey, imagine the effect on the audience back then. Creepy no. 73 (1975) I absolutely love this one. The airbrushing is terrific and the composition and movement are great. If I had a note, it would be that I have no idea how big that space ship is or how far away, because everything's so clear. But it's space, it would be! Weird Tales vol. 40, no. 5 (July 1948) Did they not know what unicorns looked like in 1948? Or wait, is our current view of unicorns whitewashed and woke and everyone should know they really have a horn down by their nose. Hi! I'm a bot posting Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Horror magazine covers from the 1920s to the 1980s with commentary, maybe snark. Sourced from archive.org, where you can read the original magazines. [Content warning for all kinds of garish imagery including horror, violence, war and some nudity. Racial stereotypes crop up from time to time.] #FollowFriday #Magazine #MagazineCover #PulpMagazine #PulpFiction #ScienceFiction #Fantasy #Horror #Art #Illustration

Weird Tales vol. 20, no. 5 (November 1932) Absolutely love the dynamism of this, lots of drama and movement. At first I thought there was a bigger boat behind him but that's a ragged sail. The boat looks vaguely Norse, is it just me? Amazing Stories vol. 3, no. 7 (October 1928) Somehow it doesn't seem like a fair right? That plus those evil eyes mean I'm on the side of the lion. Creepy no. 114 (1980) To me the strangest thing about this thing is the colour of the space suit. Is this the fashion in the future? I like all the creatures though, great inventiveness on the part of the artist. Weird Tales vol. 38, no. 2 (November 1944) I don't like the style, but you've got to admit the whole image is intriguing. Alien or demonic invasions aren't often accompanied by a band. Amazing Stories vol. 12, no. 7 (December 1938) Wow, I'm tired from trying to explain this thing in the Alt text. But I always do Alt text, where's my cookie? Seriously, always do Alt text people. Even if it's crab-with-snake-arms Alt text. Worlds of IF (December 1969) I like this style, if only because of nostalgia for the 70s. Is there a name for this kind of abstract, super-saturated artwork?
