This object is one of the three BlackGEM telescopes hosted at our La Silla Observatory. Its mission? To help detectors such as LIGO and Virgo to pinpoint powerful gravitational-wave events, like neutron star and black hole mergers, by detecting the visible afterglow that some of these events leave behind. 1/ This is the longest exposure I've ever taken: 8 months long! It shows the Sun's path on the sky between Apr 17 - Dec 11 2018, as seen from ESO's Paranal Observatory in #Chile. This is part of a collaboration with Diego López Calvín, an expert in solarigraphy: https://solarigrafia.com Diego sent me some of his hand-made #pinhole cameras, which I placed all over Paranal. So what do we see here? See thread below 👇 #astrodon #astronomy #astrophotography #sun #photography

The gleaming Trifid and Lagoon nebulae can be seen between our New Technology Telescope (left) and the ESO 3.6-meter telescope (right) at La Silla. Their red colour comes from hydrogen atoms ionised by young stars in these clouds. The Trifid nebula also shows a blue tint caused by dust reflecting the light of some of these stars. Over the weekend I got some good data on the Horsehead Nebula so now I have decent images of both of the big showy nebulae in the constellation of Orion. All data taken with my Seestar S30 Pro from my Bortle 7 backyard in Sydney, and processed in Siril with RC Astro, GraXpert and VeraLux scripts. Both images have about 4 1/2 hours of exposure time in them and I feel like they could both do with some more, but they'll do for now. Maybe I'll do a big mosaic covering both nebulae a bit later in the year when I can start imaging them before 2 am. #Astrophotography #Seestar #SeestarS30Pro #TMMT #ThirtyMillimetreTelescope #Siril #RCastro #VeraLux #GraXpert #SmartTelescope

Huh, I thought I'd already done about as good a job on the Helix Nebula as I was going to be able to do with the Thirty Millimeter Telescope, but increasing the total exposure time from 11 to almost 20 hours, doing a 1.5× drizzle upsample, and refraining from pushing the brightness so hard have together brought rewards. Maybe I should keep going on this even longer. #Astrophotography #Seestar #SeestarS30Pro #TMMT #ThirtyMillimetreTelescope #Siril #RCastro #VeraLux #SmartTelescope

Dale Ivan Smith @daleivan.bsky.social We had clear skies here in Oregon last night, so I was able to participate in International Observe the Moon night, using two telescopes. The first two images were with a 50mm aperture F10.8 refractor, the second with a 130mm F5 reflecting telescope #astronomy #astrophotography #Moon

So happy to have captured this — my best astro photo to date. This is, of course, the Andromeda Galaxy, our nearest galactic neighbor at a stone’s throw of 2.5 million light years away. You can also see M110 and M32, its two brightest satellite galaxies (out of a whopping 35 dwarf galaxies orbiting around it). Shot with a Dwarf 3 telescope under a starry Idaho night sky, which was stunning even with the naked eye. #photography #astronomy #astrophotography #galaxy #andromeda #dwarf3

Caldwell 4 – the Iris Nebula in Cepheus. This reflection nebula sits about 1,120 light-years away, where a bright central star illuminates surrounding interstellar dust in delicate blue petals. It reaches culmination at astronomical midnight and is best observed in early August. https://astrocamp.eu/en/caldwell-4-iris-nebula/ #astrophotography #astronomy #nature #ReflectionNebula

Hi folks, as promised, here's one of my first attempts at the Mosaic stacking using the dwarf 3 telescope. I'm not entirely happy with the way that it has turned out, but as a learning process and to give you a look at how things are going I thought I would let you have a look. I think this could use some reprocessing and I'd like to tinker with it a bit more. Maybe it's one to get some other of my mates with Dwarf3 to do a star party collab with. But as it is - not unattractive and gives me a feel for how it works. So what we're looking at here is a good wide view at least in terms of how the dwarf 3 does it of the Rho Ophiuchi neighborhood and the nebulas hanging around there. #Astrophotography #BackyardAstrophotography #SouthernHemisphereAstronomy #SmartTelescope #Dwarf3 #Nebula #Astrodon

The solar eclipse of August 12, 2026, from Lausanne, Switzerland. ☀️🌑 The eclipse reached 91%, and I captured it from the beginning to maximum, just before the Sun disappeared behind the mountains. This time-lapse is made from 144 × 30-second videos, each stacked and processed individually. Lunt 60mm + ZWO ASI678MM. 420mm, f7, 144 × 990 frames (142,560 frames total). #solareclipse #eclipse #solarastronomy #astrophotography #astronomy #telescope #space #sun
