When that layer shrinks, these tiny organisms spend more time exposed to brighter sunlight — so they adjust their biology to cope As phytoplankton received more light, they also became more productive — meaning they will increase in number. Zooming in a bit closer across the #Antarctic in May, the largest warm temperature anomalies were found over the Antarctic Peninsula (>5°C above the 1981-2010 average). This continues a trend from recent months for this particular region. Data from @CopernicusECMWF@masto.ai ERA5 reanalysis.
