Oh, hey! Looks like the #KC-area for-profit electric utility has nearly doubled their "FAC" / fuel adjustment charge between this month and last. Messing with the FAC is a sneaky way for investor-owned utilities to influence the "all in" bill, without getting rate adjustment approval from the state's public service commission. Not that our PSC is worth a damn... Ya know what doesn't need fuel? Solar and wind! Too bad our state has outright banned new commercial sola...

I’m deeply enjoying the new Ted Lasso season. It’s great and I have no criticism. Just like the first seasons. A+

Well, I’m back in Burbank for another chance at TPIR tomorrow. @jillianmarisa and I have morning tickets. If one of us wins a car, guess we’ll have to get some extra days off to drive home. I’ve wanted to “do” Route 66 since I was a kid, and it IS the 100th anniversary. And the end of 66 is 25 miles from here. So, basically… We really need to win. 🌈 #ThePriceIsRight

Good morning from beautiful Burbank. Let’s win something! #ThePriceIsRight

I realized on Tuesday that it’s been slightly over a year since I gave up Windows on my daily driver PC which I sit at for 8-12 hours a day. Sure doesn’t seem like it’s been over a year. I’d really like to say I’m a lot smarter in the year of being a Linux and FOSS evangelist but I don’t think I am. I have learned a little bit, though 🤷🏻‍♂️ You don’t want to read this, but AI chat have helped a lot w/ my dumb newbie questions. Open LLMs if that’s any consolation 🤷🏻‍♂️ #FOSS #Linux #Debian #Ubuntu #L...

Why is a donut joint asking for a default 20% tip for grabbing the donuts that we had to self-order order on a screen?

Tell me something well-known in your area of expertise which muggles (outsiders) are unlikely to know, but could benefit from knowing. I'll go first. Americans have an obsession with non-native plants and trees. We literally tear down native trees, build our subdivisions and then replant with European and Asian stuff. It's NUTS. This greatly affects wildlife, pollinators, birds, etc. Additionally, this advantages introduced nonnative and/or invasive species. It's a double-edged swor...

Random anecdote for your Wednesday evening: While we have multiple rubber feed pans, our hens prefer to be fed from the random hubcaps we found in Grandpa’s shed, which is now their VERY comfortable coop. Someday I need to see what they belonged to; “I feed my chickens from the hubcaps of a 79 Oldsmobile” -or whatever- would be a hoot. #BackyardChickens #MacJohnsonFarm

Goooooood morning from The Price is Right! Grabbed this photo from a “fancy” mirror in the hotel. We have arrived and secured our positions. I’m #60 that’s got to be good luck for the StarTrek 60th anniversary episode. #StarTrek #StarTrek60 #ThePriceIsRight

*EDIT- The current season isn’t the short last one. That’s next year. Yay! Wow. This season of Strange New Worlds is on fire. Too bad it’s the last season and a short one at that. #StatTrek #StarTrekSNW

Looking forward to seeing how the Supreme Court contorts itself around long-established precedence and the constitution to give this administration a win in limiting mail in ballots. My guess is they argue the executive order is between his admin, and the USPS totally skirting the issue of states rights (a traditionally Republican position) and clear as day text of article 1 section 4. https://ground.news/article/trump-administration-urges-supreme-court-to-allow-order-targeting-mail-in-voting...

Wow. Burger King discontinued the impossible whopper. They were the last national burger chain with a vegetarian-friendly option, and were the ones which led the way. In 2019 @jillianmarisa@rosafamily.social and I flew across MO to STL where they were trialing it in the early days. I just deleted my account. That was the only reason we went every now and then. Such a disappointment. #Impossiblewhopper #burgerking #vegetarian

I need to return a package at my own expense (long story) so I found parcelmonkey to rate shop. I was ready to buy, but they wanted me to create an account so they could give my data to Meta who I've long since broken up with. Hard pass for me. GTFO with that BS. I used Paypal and saved a buck.

I knew today would be a bad day, tried to prevent it and ya know what? Still a bad day. I’m fasting today. Not even bothering with food. Shower, collect thoughts and bed.

I don’t want to consume #AIshit but imagine I unwillingly already am. I have to use it at work. Nothing is black or white and I’m closer on the spectrum to anti-AI than I am to slopper. All that said, using an AI tool to assist with human code review seems pretty OK to me. Look at all of the vulnerabilities Mythos has discovered, and to some extent helped to remediate. There has to be a middle ground. https://mastodon.social/@stroughtonsmith/116924527982857544

For months I've had issues with my AudioEngine speakers developing a hum. I've swapped cables, reconnected a million times, ditched the motherboard audio jack for a new external DAC, upgraded from 3.5 MM aux to RCA, even changed the main guts in the powered speaker. Nothing corrected the issue. I just remembered that my "office" is split between two AC outlets: One is grounded (newer) where the powered speakers are plugged in, and the other isn't (original to the house) w...

Not feeling very celebratory. But #ProTip: Buy fireworks tomorrow night on discount, save them for the Big Beautiful Day. Ya have to imagine it’s not THAT far off. Yeesh I hope not. Good riddance.

New instance so I guess new intro? I haven't done one in years, so here goes... Dad x2 (teen and a toddler 😳) Happy and devoted husband to @jillianmarisa@rosafamily.social. Liberal. Enthusiastic Missouri Master Naturalist and somehow President of the KC chapter. 🤷‍♂️ Tootin' since 2022. Mastodon made me a Linux-using, #fedifirst, FOSS evangelist. I dig: Conservation + naturalist topics, photography (mostly birds these days) postcards 'n travel. Leader @ a Conglom-O Corp thankfully...
