I just stumbled over a photo from August 2017 with a #Mac in the background. That UI #Apple shipped back then was gorgeous! It was neat and tidy, you could clearly see what’s what, buttons had shapes, bars were a polished gray, there was visual hierarchy. It makes me want to design my own OS!

My partner still runs iOS 18 on his iPad. He won’t upgrade until they restore Slide-Over with fast app switching. I guess we’ll forever have an iPad Pro running iOS 18.

It’s nice to see nasty people lose control over their public image. Unfortunately, this particular nasty will probably use martial law and ICE to ensure it doesn’t impact his hold on power. So I have mixed feelings because of all the nice people who will suffer from the situation.

Features are more important than functionality in marketing. Functionality is more important than features in user-retention. Do you want to grow your user base and risk user churn, or keep it and risk being outgrown by the competition? Or do you have the resources to do both?

After reading the essay about boring tech (https://terrygodier.com/the-boring-internet) by @tg, I’ve been wondering about the DMA and other regulatory things. The chat control, the platform regulation, the age verification, all of it, requires that a central authority checks an ID, reads your content, etc. And you know what has no central authorities? The boring tech that is simply specs, protocols, etc. Most of the loud arguments about tech and privacy vanish when you move to boring tech.

Am I getting this right: Red states in the US are delaying elections, including one already in progress, after a ruling by the Supreme Court legalising racial discrimination? Better start actually protesting or you’ll experience what its like to live in Russia without the hassle of moving there.

Chunk one of three is just 720GB. Good old HDDs, now available with 20 TB capacity per drive… just try wrapping your head around that!

I’ve been using the Magic Mouse from Apple since 2009. I tried other mice. I’m still using a Magic Mouse.

Its actually easier to open old Sketch files in Figma than it is to convert them into modern Sketch files so i can open them in Sketch. Its as if the people at Sketch wants me to use Figma…

Before there was #OpenAI and #ChatGPT, there was #DeepL, a German startup from Köln using AI for translation and other language tooling. They’ve continued to improve their product over the years, and we should pay more attention to them.

I wish `contrast-color()` allowed me to specify an off-white and off-black to use, instead of pure black and white. #CSS
