  When I was young, there was no #Valentine day where I live. First time I heard about it was when my then-girlfriend (from another country) was totally vexed when she did not get anything from me that day. I had never heard of it. Big trouble! 😂 I think it was introduced here by the flower and chocolate industries (during the 1980s or 1990s?). From my point of view, a purely commercial event. Sorry, folks, I don't participate. Fortunately, my wife is also from a country without that trad...

  @JSPailly Halloween is also something that did not exist here in Germany when I was young. It was also introduced by some industries (producers of carnival costumes and stuff like that who saw an opportunity to grow further). To me it also feels like a completely commercial thing I don't take part in. I realize there are young people having fun from it but to me it just feels artificial.

  Yesterday, I watched a waterflea giving birth. 2 rather large juveniles were apparently still quite soft initially and were thus able to move from the brood chamber in the dorsal region behind the posterior end of the mother to the opening on the underside. They then apparently pumped themselves up during and after birth until their cuticle hardened. Amazing! Being in the right place at the rigtht time! Would have been worth recording. Time to buy a camera for the #microscope. #microscopy
