This tree trunk has quite the collection of polyspores. Turkey Tail? I'm not a fungus expert. The tree trunk shown in the photo is about a 7' section of a live alder. #Fungi #FungiFriday

In November 2024, IAC conducted an internal audit of its collection that tracked its operations from April 2019 to August 2024, which revealed that it could not locate 132 objects in its collection. CIRNAC has found 17 missing artworks, with an additional four flagged as possible duplicate entries in IAC’s database. The department is reportedly still looking for the missing works in regional federal government buildings. https://www.artnews.com/art-news/news/artworks-still-missing-indigenous-a...

On southern Vancouver Island, there is a famous Douglas Fir Tree named "Lonely Doug". Common photos show a large tree standing in a clearcut. What these photos rarely show is that ther is another tall Douglas Fir in that clear cut, about 100m away. Lonely Doug isn't so lonely.

Early this morning, Alberni Valley Rescue Squad was tasked to 5040 for an overdue hiker. The individual had been hiking alone and reportedly experienced a wildlife encounter, which startled them and resulted in them losing their phone and becoming disoriented. They spent the night on the mountain and were successfully located this afternoon. #BCSearchandRescue #VancouverIsland https://cheknews.ca/hiker-found-after-overnight-ordeal-on-5040-peak-rescue-squad-1318245/

At best, corporate bullshit can sometimes seem harmless. At worst, it can disrupt organizational and employee effectiveness in numerous ways including obstructing clear communication, increasing employee disengagement, tarnishing a company's reputation, and exposing businesses to potential financial and legal risks. I live on the east coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. It's herring spawning season and, as usual, thousands of sea lions are in the area feasting on the fish. For the first time, sea lions have decided to rest on the beach at the end of the spit where I live. It's interesting to see and as noisy as you might imagine. The 2 photos show the north and south sides of the spit.

An rising new musician, quite impressive. I saw Boy Golden as the opening act at a recent William Prince concert. Liam Duncan has his own unique style. He describes it as alternative country but I'd place it more as a blues/rock style with a tinge of country. https://youtu.be/3c5PzrPsEPE?si=8V9EiRp6_hZlYKoe

It's still winter up in the mountains on northern Vancouver Island. A 4 days of heavy snowfall lead to a spectacular blue sky sunny weekend for backcountry skiing. In the center of the photo, 4 people can be seen traversing onto a cliff, high up on a snow-covered mountainside. The photo was taken from Mount Cain, looking east toward Kunnum Peak. #vancouverIsland #MountCain
