  Day 3 of soldering a Valetudo breakout board every day until my robot arrives. #Valetudo #Dreame #DIY #OpenHardware #Soldering #Robot #Robotics

DHL: > The shipment has been loaded onto the delivery vehicle. Delivery is expected to take place today. Also DHL, an hour later: > Delivery not possible. Forwarding in postal retail outlet. You motherf***ers. I was here at home waiting the entire time. #DHL

Another breakout board for liberating Dreame robots with https://valetudo.cloud is fully assembled. That's all of them. There were supposed to be five, but I messed up one of them by soldering the micro USB port to the wrong side 🫪 Anyways, if you own a Dreame robot and would like to liberate it, I'll happily sell you one for the parts price of 18.43 € (I was new to this and went with the first supplier I found) #Valetudo #Dreame #DIY #Electronics #Hacking #CustomFirmware

I finally contacted a car mechanic to get my biennial inspection done. I always get the weird impression that they want to avoid getting too much done in one go. I don't quite understand that. The longer the "todo" list, the more money they could make with the same administative overhead.

Desktop Linux needs better ways of managing environment variables. They are everywhere. Both Steam and KDE Plasma should have nicer UIs for them. Like Firefox's about:config, but for environment variables. #Linux #Steam #KDE #Plasma #Firefox

I somewhat agree with @torvalds@social.kernel.org on his recent AI statement. LLMs for programming tasks are useful - for the time being. Are they economically viable? Probably not. Are they sustainable? Hell no. Are they copyright infringement? Most likely. But this is not what Torvalds is talking about. This guy just wants to make his Kernel better. I fully expect LLM providers to enshittify the living hell out of these things to recoup their insane investments. They won't stay useful....

I just went "early swimming" for a discount at the local pool. 🏊🏻‍♂️ I did 500 meters and a little extra and it felt really good. I think I finally found my preferred form of exercise. Getting out of bed at 6 AM for it will remain a challenge, though.

I finally went ahead and migrated my Mastodon to NixOS so I can finally update it again. Same for Synapse. This took a while. Writing NixOS configs is just as time consuming as writing configuration the first time, but now I hopefully have a long-lived solution. 🙏🏻

Self-hosting is awesome, but boy is it ever time consuming.

@element@mastodon.matrix.org I hope all this work with the public sector will make you guys enough money so you can keep improving the Matrix/Element experience for the general public. Don't forget us! 🙏 As much as I would love to message my local government from my own self-hosted Matrix homeserver, I don't think they would ever federate with me. 😅 Can you comment on that?

My neurologist advised that I should try EEG Neurofeedback. Unfortunately public health insurance doesn't cover it. Well, I'm just going to DIY it. I just ordered an open source Neurofeedback device with some electrodes. https://www.olimex.com/Products/EEG/OpenEEG/EEG-SMT/open-source-hardware Everything costed me just under 200 €, which is roughly the cost of a single session. I'm by no means a trained professional, but I think I can make up for it with unlimited free...

I made a little very specific program that you probably only need if you are me. I keep getting sidetracked during work. With nobody to judge me and nothing to interrupt my tangents I do a lot of interesting things throughout the day but none of them are the work I am supposed to do. This little message will pop up at regular time intervals and ask me if I'm doing work right now. I have to answer honestly. The time interval is shortened/lengthened based on my answer. #ADHD #Work #Focu...

RE: https://ma.fellr.net/@fell/116521490289046786 Meanwhile, I found the perfect solution: @planifyapp Planify supports reccurring tasks and is just overall pretty nice. I use it to work through a daily checklist and keep track of weekly and monthly tasks. It also works really well as a scratchpad for other little backlog todos. It's getting a ton of great updates recently. It really encourages you to think about *when* you plan to do something. That really helps me a lot. #CalDAV...

As a KDE Plasma user, I was always jealous of some of the nicer GNOME apps. Recently I realised that I don't need to be. I can run GNOME apps on KDE Plasma just fine! Sure, they look a little different, but they work just as they would on GNOME. 🗳️ Do you mix apps from different desktops? (If no option applies to you, please comment instead) #Linux #DesktopLinux #LinuxDesktop #GNOME #KDE #Plasma #LinuxApps #AskFedi #Poll

It's so sad. With CalDAV we have a really nice open protocol for syncing events, todos and notes. The protocol, which is technically more of a file format (iCalendar) even supports quite complex reccurence rules and even things like recurring tasks. Unfortunately, client (and server) applications usually only implement a subset of what's possible. Know some good ones? Let me know! #CalDAV #iCalendar #ics #Calendar #PIM #LinuxApps

Is anyone else just tired of messaging, in general? I avoid to open instant messenger apps lately because reading and replying to messages from friends and family just takes so much energy.

The annoying thing in Windows that re-enables unpopular settings is called "User Choice Protection Driver" (UCPD.sys) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQUYh4iKsB0 It's original intent was well-meaning: Prevent apps from messing with user defaults, like the browser or installing unwanted extensions or toolbars. Linux doesn't have any of this, AFAIK. Malicious software could change all sorts of user defaults. This could become a real problem with its growing popularity. 🤔 #Win...
