I thought the medial segment was like a really quiet affricate based on what word recalling gave me but in fact it was a glottal stop X/5 ⬛⬛🟨🟨⬛ 🟨⬛🟨⬛⬛ 🟩🟩⬛⬛⬛ ⬛⬛⬛🟩🟩 🟩🟩⬛🟩🟩 #gramle

the first vowel sounded like a syllabic n, which explains why it's so brief on the spectrogram 3/5 🟩⬛⬛⬛🟩 ⬛🟨🟨🟨🟨 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 #gramle

It makes sense I thought that the /f/ was the second segment- there seems to be only one before it. And listening to the audio, it doesn't sound like there's much vowel between /r/ and /f/, maybe a schwa at most, but definitely not an [i]. Oh well, gramle operating phonemically and not phonetically is why it's fun :] 3/5 ⬛🟨🟨🟩🟩 🟨🟨🟨⬛⬛ 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 #gramle

in which i was foiled by assuming it wouldn't be "arctic" because in my mind it has six segments., not five. and indeed when i listened to it afterwards i did here the medial k. could just be an illusion though. 4/5 ⬛🟨🟩🟩⬛ 🟩🟩⬛⬛⬛ ⬛⬛🟨⬛⬛ 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 #gramle

I'll be reading your paper "Theoretical and empirical issues of spoken word recognition in phonetic research" next week for acoustic phonetics class. We're also dedicating one class meeting to spectrogram reading à la gramle, where everyone will bring in a spectrogram for the rest to guess. With this turn of events I truly feel like I am fighting the Phonetics Fin...
