@dangillmor Kind of a balancing act though, isn't it? Likely would not have become as serious an issue if there were mechanisms for neutralising disinformation. But there aren't and most people have no defence against concerted propaganda or marketing. In fact, I'll argue that no one does if the techniques are sophisticated enough.

@matrig Should never have had to rely on something like either in the first place. A moderate fee based system supported by institutions would have been much better in the long run. And in fact given the migration costs, probably cheaper too.

@Brad_Rosenheim I share your feeling about this. It wasn't all that long ago that Biden was the front man from Clinton's budget cuts, which included climate action. As late as 2004, he was also the point person for the draconian bankruptcy bill and a fan of global military action. But as mad as he makes me, he's still a damn sight better than any Repuke and most Dem Presidents in the last 70 years. Which is the real tragedy.

@ncoca Japan has missed a lot of opportunities to do almost anything consequential about anything in the past 30 years. There is an almost self-defeating lethargy and fear that seems to be impeding any reasonable decision making. In fact, almost all decisions seem to be copied from World Bank/WTO/IMF talking points. Cases in point: Japan's first reaction to doldrums was to follow some Obama admin financial guru and market Japan a tourist destination, which puts it in the same category as...

@raymondpert@mstdn.social Given current global politics and Canada's desire to find a non-White bogeyman, I am doubtful. If it did, would have to go after CIA as well as the US over-wealthy.
