Even if you can't bring yourself to vote for the lesser of two federal evils, or a candidate in the lopsided state election, there's a good chance there's a good person vying for city council that could use your help. And there's also a good chance they might be able to reinvigorate your faith in the process with a handwritten note, like this one from my incumbent #ChicoCA city councilmember who'll likely be mayor if the rest of the city votes for the goo...

The Google Flow byline on the cribbing of a well-circulated aphorism about machine-driven destruction of a human social invention and the poster's smug response is exhausting. https://infosec.exchange/@bontchev/117522905968445906 Irony is dead and somehow the internet killed it.

@zompus @middleclasstool I went back to get some old PS2 game ISOs for nostalgia and realized I have no memory of what games I actually had.

https://slime.global/@junebug/116964443005410459 I like that this turned into a "share your one bug" thread because it's so universal Mine is that, consistently across all combinations of Xubuntu and Mint Debian, a 2012 Macbook Air and 2020 HP Elitebook, and built in trackpads and my trusty Logitech M570, approximately one out of twenty mouse clicks gets picked up as a double-click.

I don't think I've ever seen someone argue with phrasing such as "late-stage capitalism" or "terminal capitalism" or something else implying that capitalism is well and truly cooked. Which makes it seem like even the most fervent ideological capitalists don't dispute the point, they're just rushing to get theirs before the True Collapse.

RE: https://wandering.shop/@cstross/116527902877746036 Here's a reminder that Microsoft's recent focus on security is reactive, not proactive. As has always been the case.

I'm seeing that link about an Airbnb founder going DOGE alongside a call for a boycott, and I'm really wishing more people had paid attention to the actual track record of these early self-acknowledged disruptive companies and helped strangle them long before they amassed the power to actually harm things. My first assignment in my public policy masters program ten years ago(!) was loosely on Airbnb's business model, and even back then it was abundantly clear that it was...

Started a Minecraft Skyblock world to show the concept to the kiddos, and a month later I'm in megaproject mode, having just completed a forest area that required two full double-chests of material.

You say technology has peaked, but I don't think so. I'll tell you why right after I'm done emailing myself the only working redshift.conf I've had in ten plus years so my new laptop won't burn my retinas after 8 PM.

With all of the recent tech layoffs, does anyone know how much accounting or legal staff got the axe? I feel it would be really insightful whether MS really trusts Copilot in those spheres.
