@robpike@cosocial.ca I feel the same. However, I was told multiple times by LLM enthusiasts, that LLMs is what brought them back the joy or increased their enjoyment. One of the enthusiasts told me that there are two kinds of people in our line of work -- the "builders" and the people who like to write code.

@robpike@cosocial.ca maybe it would be more honest to say "I like to see stuff being built but no longer want to get my hands dirty"

  • @bjorndown@mastodon.social I am a researcher, python is just one of the notation systems I need to know for me to do my work. i dont want to spend my life getting better at writing python, what matters to me is getting better at my craft ( (after a certain amount of mastery of the tools). I love writing code and I will continue to do it for as long as I can, The two are not mutually exclusive for me. edit: rephrased because earlier one was not good.

@bjorndown@mastodon.social @robpike@cosocial.ca I can't help but think that if outsourcing their thinking and learning is what brings them joy, they don't deserve joy. The joy does not belong to them.

@bjorndown@mastodon.social @robpike@cosocial.ca I think the confusing part here is that these are not disjoint groups. Some people enjoy both the process and the result.
