I love baseball movies. On the weekend, I've watched one I didn't know, yet: Eephus.
What a weird movie!!!
I'd say it scores 100% on atmosphere/mood as well as character variety in the actors. But it would likely score more like 0-10% on plot or 'suspense curve'.
I've really liked it in a way, but would not recommend it. Unless you like quirky character studies like those of the French director/actor Jacques Tati. And you *must* love baseball with all its quirks and idiosyncrasies, especially recreational baseball ('beer ball').
And, I've learnt about a new/different pitch, the 'eephus': https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eephus_pitch

@phlogiston@mastodon.nz I disagree that you need to love baseball. Personally, I don't, and never did, but it's one of my favorite films of 2024. Because the film isn't about baseball: it's about a bunch of guys who love the game, but more than that, love spending time out here, taking a lazy afternoon (into evening) to observe a seeming;y meaningless ritual whose importance comes from what it means to the guys. I also find it absolutely hilarious from start to finish.
