I returned to Twitter/X recently. I'm not going to post a multi-thousand word justification for it. The reason can easily fit into a toot: I wanted to download my tweet archive from before it became a Nazi bar. Now that I have the archive, there's no reason for me to ever visit there again.

@jef@mastodon.social I did that in November 2022. Then in November 2023—after not posting there since January (which was merely a "you can find me on mastodon" note), I renamed my account, created a new empty one with my name, then deleted the old one. (Twitter was at that time retaining deleted account data for some months in case the user had made a mistake. And I wanted to prevent anyone registering @cstross@wandering.shop and squatting on it in my absence.)
