My anti-slug tactics are: 1) Stick to planting things with woody stems that slugs aren't keen to eat - roses, lavender, rosemary, philadelphus, hebe, peonies... 2) Sluggo is quite effective and not harmful to pets or other wildlife: https://www.neudorff.co.uk/products/sluggo-slug-snail-killer.html
