In my experience LLMs have been great at implementing solved problems that it has been trained on. I’ve built a low-level media system that AFAIK exists in one 20yo unmaintained open sourced version, and ~6 proprietary versions. Even with clear specifications and baby steps Opus had a very hard time getting functional code.
