The true lesson is people with ADHD shouldn’t have a collection of rocks based on the alphabet. So what if Z is missing. It looked nothing like a Z. Get over it. Maybe it is actually somewhere around here though. I’m tired now. Yo, where’s the Z shaped rock? Now I’m extremely tired. Finally. But that rock? Oh well. Zzzzzz Where’s that freaking Z shaped rock??? Let’s build a new one!!!

I lost a butt plug for 8 months because the safe spot was a giant container of condoms. I only found it because it glows in the dark and I thought the container was haunted when I woke up after a 2 hour nap.

OTOH, one of the few coping techniques I’ve found to be helpful is when I absolutely MUST not lose something, especially to take with me somewhere on the next day, to loudly proclaim “I’m going to lose this thing, so I’m putting it here so I know where the fuck I lost it” - and making a big deal about it usually helps solve that problem. …if I do remember that I need it the next day, of course.

Remember where you looked first and put it there when you find it.

When me or my wife can’t find something we like to say “I remember putting it in a very smart place” or “it must be in a very smart place”.

Nah, for me if it is moved without my knowledge or put away where I’m not aware of, I’ll never find it again because i find stuff by looking back at memories of where I remember I last saw it. Most of the time when i couldn’t find something i was certain i should know where it was, was because my ex had moved it when “tidying up”, but because that overcoat thing meant nothing to her, she didn’t keep a memory of where she put it.

I can’t remember where the important thing is because I have a huge mental map of all the things that might come in handy one day…

  • I gotta say, this has not been my experience. “I’m putting this in a safe spot” means there’s a coinflip’s chance it’s in one of the standard spots and we can find it again. It’s when they don’t make a conscious and deliberate effort to put something away that it gets ethered. Can’t count the number of times my partner has lost her cell phone, her keys, her purse, her wallet, her shoes, her bicycle, her car… because she was just going through life doing her thing. Under a blanket. In a cabinet. In the refrigerator. In the trash. I was apoplectic when she took the bus home from work, having not bothered to clock that she’d driven there. “Wait, why is there only one car in the garage?” “Oh, haha! I knew I was forgetting something. I’ll call an Uber.” mega-sigh

  • Hey, now. We know exactly where it is in our mind palaces, but the key to that room has grown legs. It’ll turn up, and then so will said thing. Checkmate. 💁🏼‍♂️
