@atomicpoet@mastodon.social I'm really enjoying the social space in the Fediverse (& in the embargoed Cuba-of- the-Fediverse, Counter.Social, which has a *great* vibe). But I've yet to find one of the things I *love* about Twitter: the local person sharing breaking news. It seemed no matter what, where, I could find a someone there, tweeting real life info in real time. Charlie Hebdo, Notre Dame, Hong Kong, G8 Summit, Tonga's volcano, whatever. Does that exist in Masto? If so, how do I find it? #findnews?

@atomicpoet@mastodon.social the internet is really the hardware and protocols of machine communication, but how thats built on top of certainly matters! Federated systems have a lot of ways to mature, but something that can’t be bought by a billionaire is a great start!
