Feeling grateful that I exited the canadian coast guard before it returned from Fisheries to the Department of Defence. It still feels weird that people seem to see it as military service when at the time it was just helping science and cartography programs and rescuing people who made bad decisions. We definitely didn't get paid like military service either. Lowest paid marine labour in canada with zero danger/sea pay.
