Watching Tron (1982) for the first time in many years. Realizing I don't love it because it's "camp" or "retro." I just love it. Also The filmmaking decision to use live action with costumes and IDK UV lights (?) to do what CGI would do 30 years later was fairly brilliant. It holds up, IMOThe Dude as a young guy... this is the trippiest thingVideo game environments with changeable, destroyable environments: kinda brilliant, and of course the plot doesn't work otherwiseI want a light cycle so bad #tron #movies #80s

@guyjantic@infosec.exchange this made me go watch the race clip since I hadn't seen it in years.

  • @guyjantic@infosec.exchange Same. I haven’t seen it in a few years, but I genuinely think it’s a good movie. The whole aesthetic is so coldly digital and menacing. It seems to get the metaphor of being in a computer right, with all its anthropomorphisms.

@guyjantic@infosec.exchange @puppethead@ieji.de We saw that on a school movie night when I was in elementary. It’s a great movie and doing CGI before it was possible was amazing and shocking. The principal did do an obligatory “I don’t get it” after the movie so I guess it wasn’t for everyone.

@guyjantic@infosec.exchange I can't remember how young I was when I first saw it, but it's always been one of my favorite movies of all time. :blob_cat_aww: :blob_cat_heart: It was partly responsible for my love of cyberpunk, because my introduction to that genre was the Cyberpunk 2020 rpg, where I could essentially enter a world a lot like Tron. My first character's internet icon/avatar looked just like CLU, and he wrote programs like Light Cycle and Disc.
