At least with PC gaming it’s possible to buy an old computer or laptop and have a massive library. It’s not like we’re restricted to the current generation, I could go and play Wasteland on my modern PC with no issue if I wanted to install a couple megabytes.

Adding on this, all those old multiplayer games you think nobody plays anymore? Yeah, there’s a Discord somewhere just for people to organize play times for that game. For example, the whole arena FPS subgenre still lives on that way, all the way back to Doom and Quake. You can play that old game you love again. Maybe not the instant you try, but you can. You haven’t played for the last time if you’re willing to go look and ask around.

Also if you’ve got old hardware you can still play the new games, just at much lower settings. If you’ve got a PS4 you can’t just play PS5 games at lower settings.

That works on console too. The old machines and games (mostly) all still exist.
