Another amazing visual essay by @tg. This section stood out for me: "These aren’t acts of nostalgia. I don’t want to teleport to 1999 with a beige computer and pretend everything was better when getting online made a noise. I am trying to build on the part of the internet that still has the properties I want software to have: durable, legible, user-shaped, hostile to enclosure, and quiet enough that a single person can still understand the whole thing." https://www.terrygodier.com/the-boring-internet #IndieWeb #RSS

@andrewmelder@mastodon.online @tg@indieweb.social httpS ?? PKI? No? Bye.... (Obviously, the referenced hostile environment around the old protocols, and the lack of protection, means they can in a sense be taken away from you.)

@andrewmelder@mastodon.online Quiet enough that a single person can still understand" is exactly why I build local-first iOS apps. The moment you introduce massive cloud backends and tracking, you lose that quiet legibility. Keeping the stack small is the only way to stay sane as an indie.

@tg@indieweb.social @andrewmelder@mastodon.online But a simple text version is also available, in the spirit of the old boring internet ;-) Love it!
