I just watched the livestream of the funeral of a lovely woman who lived a long and good life - she was the sister of my uncle (Mum’s sister’s husband). That sounds confusing but I can’t think of a better way of explaining it! They did a thing I’ve never seen before during the service. Family and friends came up and wrote messages and drawings on her plain wooden coffin. I loved this idea. #funerals

@simplicitarian@cloudisland.nz My 84 year old brother died nearly 1 year ago - he had a plain pine casket from the Men's Shed and all 10 of the great-grandkids drew pictures and wrote stories on it before the funeral. It was a great way for the kids to process the loss of their Mighty Pop, and also made his funeral very special - totally personalised for him with everything that was special to him. There were pictures of family, rugby balls, fish (he was a keen fisherman), dogs and boats.
