@charliejane The premise is of course flawed. Catastrophe doesn't invalidate art but reveals its necessity. We don't ask whether to light a candle cuz the night is dark. The darkness is precisely why the flame becomes visible at all.
Art is no luxury good for stable civilizations for it is the last language spoken when stability collapses. How a culture coughs up its truth before it suffocates.

@charliejane Promotion then is less self-advertising than smuggling. We are slipping meaning past the guards of indifference. Placing fragments of soul into the hands of strangers who didn't know they were starving. To refuse to share our work out of guilt is no humility but a peculiar form of vanity. The assumption that our silence is morally superior to our expression. As if the void needs our cooperation.
